Campgrounds near Burlington, Illinois
Burlington is a small village in Kane County, Illinois, sitting in the northeastern part of the state roughly 60 miles west of downtown Chicago. The area is surrounded by farmland, forest preserves, and small towns like Hampshire, Elgin, and Marengo, which puts a mix of private RV resorts and public campgrounds within easy reach.
RV travelers use Burlington as a quiet base for exploring the Fox River corridor, the northwest Chicago suburbs, and the Illinois-Wisconsin state line. The closest private options include Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort and Chicago Northwest KOA Holiday, both a short drive away via I-90. Sycamore RV Resort sits to the southwest, while NorthWoods RV Resort and Pine Country RV and Camping Resort are farther out for travelers heading toward Wisconsin.
Public camping in the county is managed by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, which oversees preserves used for day trips and overnight stays. Between private resorts and public preserves, the area works well for weekend trips, longer family stays, and stopovers on I-90 routes.
Things to do near Burlington
The Kane County forest preserves offer the closest natural attractions. The district manages more than 23,000 acres of woodlands, wetlands and prairies open sunrise to sunset, with trails for hiking, biking, and birding. Burlington Prairie Forest Preserve is now home to a small bison herd introduced to the tallgrass prairie, the first bison to live on Kane County prairie in more than 200 years.
Fishing and paddling are easy day activities. Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort has an on-site lake used by guests, and public preserves in the county include ponds and stretches of the Fox River. Golf, disc golf, and horseback riding trails are also available within a short drive.
For town days, Elgin and St. Charles sit on the Fox River with restaurants, museums, and riverwalk paths. Downtown Chicago is reachable by car or by Metra commuter train from nearby stations.

Very very helpful to have a sizable fridge and freezer. Microwave a big plus. Solar panels and Shore Power allowed us to use comfy air-connditioning. Thanks.

What to expect on the ground
The landscape around Burlington is rolling farmland with pockets of oak-hickory woods, prairie, and small lakes. Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, quiet county roads, and quick access to I-90 for longer trips. Cell service is generally reliable, though Wi-Fi quality at private campgrounds varies.
Private RV parks in the area lean toward full-hookup sites with pull-throughs sized for larger rigs. Lehman's Lakeside RV Resort offers full hookup sites with pull-through spots and typical resort amenities. Shade is limited at some sites, so awnings are useful in summer.
Public preserve campgrounds are more rustic. Paul Wolff Campground has 89 improved sites with 50/30/20-amp electric, water, parking pads, and fire rings, with restrooms on site but no showers. Firewood is sold at the campground office, and outside firewood is allowed to be brought in.
