Camp Point sits in Adams County in west-central Illinois, roughly 25 miles east of Quincy and the Mississippi River. The surrounding landscape is a mix of rolling farmland, wooded ravines, and small lakes, with several state fish and wildlife areas within an hour's drive. RV travelers use the town as a quiet base for exploring the river bluffs, state parks, and the historic communities of Quincy, Nauvoo, and Carthage.
Campground options range from small private RV parks to state-managed campgrounds with electric sites. Oak Wood Acres Campground is the closest option to town, while Pine Grove - Siloam Springs State Park sits just minutes east of Quincy and covers 3,323 acres of wooded terrain and lake shoreline. Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area lies to the northeast in Schuyler County, and DRIFTWOOD RV Park and Carthage Campground round out the closer choices for travelers heading toward Hancock County.
Most sites in the area are best suited to standard travel trailers and Class C motorhomes, though state parks accept larger rigs at electric sites.

West-central Illinois has four distinct seasons. Spring brings variable weather, greening woodlands, and rising water levels in creeks and lakes. Spring and fall are when trail conditions are most favorable, and wildflowers appear across the wooded gullies at Siloam Springs from April into June.
Summer is warm and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common from June through August. This is peak family camping season, and state park electric sites fill quickly on holiday weekends. Ticks and mosquitoes are prevalent in the area, so campers should carry bug repellent and check for ticks after time in the woods.
Fall delivers cool nights, hardwood color, and quieter campgrounds through October. The state parks stay open year-round, providing opportunities for winter camping and activities such as ice fishing, and Weinberg-King is popular in winter for its cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Water services at state sites are typically shut off during freezing months.
How to book a site
Illinois state park campsites are reserved through the ExploreMoreIL system operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Reservations at both Pine Grove - Siloam Springs State Park and Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area are accepted through the ExploreMoreIL website. Book well in advance for holiday weekends and any weekend from late spring through fall.
Private campgrounds such as Oak Wood Acres Campground, DRIFTWOOD RV Park, and Carthage Campground handle reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Call ahead to confirm rig-length limits, hookup type, and shoulder-season hours.
For group trips, the state parks offer designated group campgrounds that must be reserved separately. Check-in windows and quiet hours vary, so review the confirmation details before arrival.
What to expect
Expect rural, low-key campgrounds rather than resort-style parks. State park sites are wooded and shaded, with picnic tables and fire rings. Pine Grove - Siloam Springs State Park offers 86 Class A sites with restrooms, showers, and electricity, 18 Class B sites with restrooms and showers, plus four hike-in backpack sites, three horse-ride sites, and a group campground. At Weinberg-King, the two loops offer 48 electric sites total across the equestrian and non-equestrian areas, but potable water at the campground is limited, so campers should bring their own supply.
Cell coverage is patchy in the wooded valleys, and grocery runs generally mean a drive into Camp Point, Quincy, or Augusta. Roads into the state parks are paved but narrow in spots. Families will find playgrounds, easy trails, and small lakes suitable for kids, and pets are allowed at state park campsites when leashed.
