We had an amazing experience renting a camper from Catherine! From start to finish, she made the process so easy. The camper was spotless, fully stocked with everything we needed (and then some!), and it made our trip comfortable and stress-free. Catherine was incredibly responsive and always quick to answer any questions we had. It was obvious she put a lot of thought into making sure her guests had a great experience. If you’re looking to rent a camper, we highly recommend Catherine. We wouldn’t hesitate to rent from her again. Thank you for helping make our weekend such a wonderful trip!

How to book
Rock Cut State Park sites are reserved through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources ExploreMoreIL system. The park office no longer takes reservations directly. Reservations open six months in advance and must be made at least three days before arrival. All campers must have a permit, and equestrian camping is restricted to the Hart Road site on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pine Country RV and Camping Resort is part of the Thousand Trails network, so members book through Thousand Trails, and non-members can often reserve directly with the resort when sites are available. NorthWoods RV Resort and Holiday Acres Camping Resort book directly through their own websites or by phone. For summer weekends, holidays, and any July or August date, reserve as early as possible.
What to expect
Expect a mix of amenity-heavy private resorts and a busy state park campground. Private resorts near Capron lean family-focused, with pools, playgrounds, and planned weekend activities, and they carry a high share of seasonal campers, so transient sites can be limited on peak weekends. Full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service are common.
Rock Cut State Park has about 270 premium sites, most with electric hookups, plus a rustic cabin, a youth group camp, and shelters. A camp store near the Plum Grove area sells ice, firewood, snacks, and basic sundries. Alcohol is prohibited in the campground, and firewood cannot be carried out of the park because of the emerald ash borer quarantine.
Cell coverage is generally good in this corridor, and interstates I-90 and US-20 provide direct access from Chicago and Rockford.
