Campgrounds and RV parks near Carbon Cliff, IL

The Rock River is the main draw. Tubing, kayaking, and canoeing are easy day trips from Lundeen's Landing Campground and Tube Rentals, with floats running toward Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island. Anglers work both the Rock River and the Mississippi from shore and boat, with bait and firewood available on site at Camp Hauberg. The Illinois Great River Road follows the Mississippi north through Hampton and Port Byron, connecting bike-friendly campgrounds like Camp Hauberg to riverside parks and small-town cafes. In the metro, families can add a Mississippi riverboat cruise, Quad Cities minor league games at Modern Woodmen Park, and the John Deere Pavilion in Moline. Loud Thunder and Illiniwek Forest Preserves add hiking, fishing, and boat launches within a short drive.

Peak RV season runs from late May through early September, when Rock River water levels support tubing and paddling and the KOA and Sun Retreats Rock River pools are open. Weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out first, and Quad Cities festival weekends can tighten availability across the metro. Shoulder seasons are strong for quieter stays. Late April through mid-May brings green-up and cool nights, while mid-September through late October offers hardwood color along the river bluffs and easier reservations. Overnight temperatures drop quickly in October, so furnace-ready rigs are useful. Late fall through winter is off-season. Many private Rock River campgrounds close or shift to limited seasonal operation, and Rock Island County forest preserve campgrounds run roughly from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in October as weather permits. Spring flooding on the Rock and Mississippi rivers occasionally affects low-lying sites and boat ramps, so travelers should confirm conditions with the campground before arriving in March and April.

Sites near Carbon Cliff are mostly gravel or grass pads under mature hardwoods along the river. Full hookups are common at the KOA and Sun Retreats Rock River, while Camp Hauberg offers 30-amp electric with water hookups and an on-site dump station. Cell coverage is generally strong throughout the Quad Cities corridor. Expect mosquitoes and river gnats in humid stretches of summer, especially at dusk near the water. Trains run through the Quad Cities on multiple lines, and rail tracks parallel Highway 84 near Camp Hauberg, so some riverside sites hear horn noise overnight. Storms can move through fast in late spring and early summer, so awnings should come in before leaving the site. Groceries, fuel, propane, and RV supplies are all available within a short drive in East Moline, Silvis, and Moline.
