Campgrounds and RV parks near Centreville, IL

The Gateway Arch, Busch Stadium, the free-admission St. Louis Zoo in Forest Park, and the Missouri Botanical Garden are all within a short drive across the river. On the Illinois side, Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving pre-Columbian earthworks, and the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site in Hartford marks the expedition's departure point. Outdoor activity centers on the water. Horseshoe Lake State Park offers hiking, boating, kayaking, fishing, and wildlife viewing across roughly 3,000 acres, with a 1,200-acre lake at its core. Cyclists can ride or walk the historic Route 66 Chain of Rocks Bridge across the Mississippi. Guests staying at DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park can use the campground's shuttle service to reach Cardinals games and downtown attractions.

The prime RV window runs from mid-April through mid-October. Spring brings the region's wettest months, with May averaging the highest rainfall and thunderstorm activity, so travelers should watch for severe weather alerts and river-level advisories along the Mississippi and Missouri bottomlands. The St. Louis area sits east of the heart of Tornado Alley, and tornadoes are most likely in spring. Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs frequently in the upper 80s to 90s Fahrenheit and elevated dew points from late June through August. Cardinals home stands, festivals, and Fair St. Louis drive high demand at riverfront RV parks; booking several weeks ahead is advisable for holiday weekends. Horseshoe Lake State Park's campground normally operates on a fixed seasonal window from May 1 through September 30, though travelers should check current status before arrival, as the campground and access road have been closed for causeway and bridge work. Fall is the most comfortable stretch, with mild days, cooler nights, and lower humidity from mid-September through October. Winter is cold with periodic snow and ice; the KOA Journey typically closes for the season, while riverfront private parks such as Cahokia RV Parque remain open year-round.

Expect an urban-edge camping experience rather than a wilderness one. The riverfront RV parks sit in industrial and gaming districts with train noise, close-set sites, and paved or gravel pads; hookups are typically full-service with 30 and 50 amp electric. Cahokia RV Parque offers a seasonal outdoor pool, laundry, showers, a playground, and the on-site Sawmill BBQ restaurant, and it runs a shuttle to St. Louis attractions. DraftKings at Casino Queen RV Park provides walking access to the MetroLink and shuttle service to the casino and downtown venues. The KOA Journey near Granite City offers standard KOA family amenities including a pool open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, a jumping pillow, and a playground, though open-ground campfires are prohibited by county ordinance. Horseshoe Lake State Park is primitive when open: pit toilets, water hydrants, and a dump station, with no showers or hookups. Cell service is generally strong across the metro area.
