Campgrounds and RV parks near Colchester, IL

Colchester sits in western Illinois in McDonough County, roughly seven miles from Macomb and within easy driving range of several state park campgrounds suitable for RV travelers. The closest option is Argyle Lake State Park, where the Twisted Oak campground contains 86 Class A sites with showers and electricity, the Big Oaks campground contains 24 Class B/E electric-only sites and 18 Class C sites with vehicle access and restrooms, and the Twin Oaks campground has 31 Class D primitive sites. Amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers, trash collection and a dump station, and there are boat rentals, docks, and hiking trails within the park. South and east of Colchester, additional Illinois Department of Natural Resources sites broaden the options. Siloam Springs State Park is a 3,323-acre site with wooded terrain, a lake, and carefully maintained facilities suitable for camping, hunting, fishing, boating, picnicking, hiking, and bird watching. Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area offers a smaller, quieter campground focused on hunting and hiking use. Farther afield, Carthage Campground provides a municipal-style base near Carthage, and Delabar State Park sits along the Mississippi River corridor in Henderson County. Together these sites give RV renters a mix of electric and primitive options within a reasonable radius of Colchester.

Online reservations for all Illinois Department of Natural Resources-hosted camping, cabins, group camps, and shelters are made through the ExploreMoreIL website, and reservations are no longer taken through the mail or over the phone. Campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period and reservations must be made three days before the campsite is needed. This covers Argyle Lake, Siloam Springs, Weinberg-King, and Delabar. Most campgrounds also have first-come, first-served sites, and travelers should contact the park for availability of these. Holiday weekends often carry minimum-stay requirements, so read the site rules before booking. Carthage Campground and other municipal or private options in the area typically take reservations by phone or through their own websites, so confirm policies before arrival. Bring proof of reservation, a valid ID, and, for anglers, an Illinois fishing license when required by the park.
