Campgrounds and RV parks near Golden, IL

Golden sits in Adams County in western Illinois, roughly halfway between Quincy and Macomb. The village is small and rural, so RV travelers typically base out of it to reach state parks, fish and wildlife areas, and lake campgrounds spread across the surrounding counties. Corn and soybean country dominates the landscape, broken by wooded creek valleys and reservoir basins that hold most of the region's public camping. The closest full-service state park is Siloam Springs State Park, a 3,323-acre site of wooded terrain and a spring-fed lake just east of Quincy, with the Pine Grove campground loop among its main camping areas. To the north, Argyle Lake State Park sits 7 miles from Macomb on a 1,700-acre wooded site around a 93-acre lake, with Twisted Oaks holding the majority of its Class A electric sites. Smaller options round out the area. Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area covers 772 acres of rolling hills in Schuyler County near Augusta, and Carthage Campground and Oak Wood Acres Campground provide additional bases for exploring Hancock County and the Mississippi River corridor.

Illinois state park campsites, including Pine Grove at Siloam Springs State Park, Twisted Oaks at Argyle Lake State Park, and Weinberg-King State Park Fish and Wildlife Area, are reserved through the ExploreMoreIL system operated by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Sites are released online and can be booked in advance for the standard season. Carthage Campground is operated locally through the Carthage Park District, and reservations are handled by phone through the park district office. Private options such as Oak Wood Acres Campground handle bookings directly with the campground. For summer weekends and holiday periods, reserve state park sites several weeks ahead. Class A sites with electric hookups go first, especially at Argyle Lake, which is known to sell out. Confirm RV length limits and whether the loop offers pull-through or back-in sites before arrival.
