Campgrounds and RV parks near Hamilton, IL

Hamilton sits on the Mississippi River in Hancock County, directly across from Keokuk, Iowa, and a short drive south of Nauvoo. The area is flat to gently rolling farmland cut by river bluffs, with the river itself as the main recreation anchor. RV travelers use Hamilton as a base for river towns, Mormon-history sites, and lock-and-dam viewing at Keokuk. Campground options within a short drive include Hickory Haven Campground plus a cluster of parks around Nauvoo: Camp Nauvoo, Nauvoo State Park, and Nauvoo RV Park. Carthage Campground, at the Hancock County seat about twenty minutes inland, adds another option for travelers routing through the historic Carthage Jail area. The mix is typical of west-central Illinois: one state park with electric sites and traditional shade, a couple of private RV parks with full hookups, and small commercial grounds that suit shorter stops. Big-rig access is generally workable on state highways, though internal park roads at older grounds can be tight.

Nauvoo State Park is managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and reservations are made through the state's ExploreMoreIL system. The park offers 105 camping spaces, split between 35 Class A electric sites and 70 Class B areas, plus a central group area. All campers must obtain a permit at the park office on arrival, and groups of 25 or more need advance permission before entering. Private options such as Hickory Haven Campground, Camp Nauvoo, and Nauvoo RV Park take reservations directly through their own phone or online booking. Carthage Campground is a small municipal ground; contact the operator directly for availability. For summer weekends and the grape festival, book Nauvoo-area sites several weeks out.
