Campgrounds and RV parks near Ladd, IL

Ladd sits in Bureau County in north-central Illinois, within easy driving distance of the Illinois River valley and the canyon country of LaSalle County. RV travelers use the village as a base for reaching a cluster of state-managed camping areas along the Illinois River bluff and the Hennepin Canal corridor. The nearest full-service private option is Nature's Way RV Park, a straightforward hookup base close to town. For state-park camping with electric sites and modern facilities, Starved Rock State Park's campground offers 133 Class-A Premium sites with electric hook-ups (30 amp or 50 amp), roughly a half-hour southeast. Starved Rock Family Campground is a nearby private alternative. Matthiessen State Park operates an equestrian campground west of Route 178 between Route 71 and the Dells Area entrance for riders traveling with horses. West of Ladd, the Hennepin Canal State Trail stretches for 93 miles in northwest Illinois along an old canal towpath. Lock 6 is one of several Class C campgrounds along the canal, along with locks 11, 17, 21, 22, 23, and 26 and bridges 14 and 23, useful for cyclists, paddlers, and RV travelers wanting a quieter overnight than the busy Starved Rock area.

Starved Rock State Park Campground reservations are required and can be placed 6 months to 4 days prior to the date of your planned arrival, only online at ExploreMoreIL. Reservations cannot be made online within 2 days of the arrival date, when the walk-in period for sites begins, first come, first served at the campground. Handicap-accessible and youth-group sites must be arranged by phone with the park office at 815-667-4726, weekdays only. Matthiessen's equestrian campground sites are first come, first served and reservations cannot be made through the park or online; campers complete a registration envelope at the campground and drop the fee in the box provided. The Hennepin Canal State Trail is not enrolled in the camping reservation system and does not take reservations; the site security officer collects fees in person, and campers can pay by cash or check.
