Camping near Liberty, Illinois
Liberty sits in Adams County in west-central Illinois, a short drive east of Quincy and the Mississippi River. The area works well as an RV base for trips into the river bluffs, small farm towns, and the Mark Twain corridor across the state line in Missouri.
The closest developed camping is at Siloam Springs State Park near Clayton, Illinois, where the park offers Class A and Class B campsites along with hike-in backpack sites and a group campground. Pine Grove Campground features 50 RV campsites, with 49 Class A sites offering 30- or 50-amp electric connections and one non-electric site. Oak Wood Acres Campground provides another local option closer to town.
Across the river, Mark Twain Cave and Campground puts RV travelers next to the Hannibal attractions, while DRIFTWOOD RV Park and Bayview Campers Park add river-adjacent options for shorter stops. Together these sites cover state-park, private, and attraction-based camping within roughly an hour of Liberty.
Things to do near Liberty
Siloam Springs State Park has about 12 miles of hiking trails running from valleys to flatlands, including a combined 6-mile hiking and backpacking route, plus 23 miles of equestrian trails across ridgetops and steep wooded valleys. The park lake supports fishing, boating, and picnicking, and the surrounding forest draws birdwatchers.
At Mark Twain Cave and Campground, guided cave tours run daily. The one-hour tour holds a steady 52 degrees year-round and enters the cave that Samuel Clemens made famous. Within walking distance of the campsites, visitors can reach Mark Twain Cave, Cameron Cave, the Cave Hollow Winery and Event Center, a walking trail, and gemstone sluicing.
Quincy adds riverfront parks, restaurants, and historic architecture within a short drive of Liberty.

West-central Illinois has four distinct seasons. Spring and fall are ideal for camping thanks to mild weather and fall foliage, but most Siloam Springs campgrounds stay open year-round, with winter activities such as ice fishing sometimes possible. Summer brings warm, humid days and the region's peak thunderstorm activity, so RV renters should plan around afternoon storms.
Booking pressure follows the same curve. Most Illinois state park campsites may be reserved from May 1 through October 31, and some parks accept reservations year-round. Holiday weekends fill first. Memorial Day, Fourth of July when it lands on a Friday through Monday, and Labor Day weekends carry a minimum-stay requirement.
Ticks are a real consideration in wooded sections of the park system. Campers should take precautions such as using insect repellent and checking themselves after time outdoors. Fall visits typically bring lower insect pressure and cooler nights better suited to campfires.
How to book campgrounds near Liberty
Reservation systems differ by campground type. Online reservations for all Illinois Department of Natural Resources-hosted camping, cabins, group camps, and shelters are made through the ExploreMoreIL website, with payment by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. This covers Pine Grove at Siloam Springs State Park. IDNR camping and shelter reservations are no longer accepted by mail or phone.
Campsites can be reserved for a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period, and reservations must be made three days before the campsite is needed. Most campgrounds also hold first-come, first-served sites; contact the park directly for availability.
Private parks such as Mark Twain Cave and Campground, DRIFTWOOD RV Park, Oak Wood Acres Campground, and Bayview Campers Park book directly through the property or through third-party platforms.
What to expect at Liberty campgrounds
Sites near Liberty range from full-hookup private parks to state-park loops with electric only. At Pine Grove, the maximum vehicle length is 36 feet, the dump station sits outside the campground, and restrooms include flush toilets and showers. Renters with larger rigs should confirm site length before booking.
Mark Twain Cave and Campground sits in a wooded hollow with 99 campsites ranging from sunny to shaded and from full hookup to electric-only to tent sites, with laundry, free WiFi, and basic camping supplies at the gift shop. Sites tend to be gravel and shaded by mature trees.
Cell coverage is inconsistent in the bluff country and inside Siloam Springs State Park, so downloading maps and reservations in advance is smart. Grocery runs are easiest from Quincy.

camp.exploremoreil.com/When is the best time of year to plan an RV trip from Liberty, IL?
Late April through mid-October is the sweet spot for RV camping in Liberty, IL. Spring (April to May) brings highs in the 60s and 70s with blooming bluffs along the Mississippi. Summer (June to August) is warm and humid, with highs in the mid-80s, perfect for river days, though pack rain gear since thunderstorms roll through. Hannibal, MO, Keokuk, IA, and Mark Twain Lake are all popular routes. Fuel is one of the bigger line items, but it's predictable. Class C motorhomes typically get 8 to 12 miles per gallon, Class B campervans 16 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Gas prices in west-central Illinois tend to run near the Midwest average, and you'll find fuel-friendly stops in Quincy, Payson, and Mendon. For a 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $100 to $150 in gas. Fill up in Quincy before heading to rural areas, and use apps like GasBuddy to spot the cheapest stations along US-24.

For peak summer weekends (June through August) and holidays, book Illinois state park campgrounds like Siloam Springs as soon as the reservation window opens, typically six months ahead through the Camp IL reservation system. Private parks in the Quincy area usually have more availability and can be booked 1 to 2 months out. Weeknights and shoulder seasons (April, May, September, October) are much easier and often available a week or two ahead. If a weekend looks full, try Wednesday-to-Sunday or Sunday-to-Thursday stays. You'll dodge crowds and often save money on both the campsite and your Liberty RV rental.
