Camping near Quincy, Illinois
Quincy sits on bluffs above the Mississippi River in west-central Illinois, directly across from northeast Missouri. That location puts RV travelers within reach of two state-park systems (Illinois and Missouri), several private RV parks, and a stretch of the Great River Road that runs north toward Nauvoo and south toward Hannibal.
Close-in options include DRIFTWOOD RV Park in Quincy, which sits just off the Great River Road on Bonansinga Drive and offers full-hookup sites with concrete pads, along with Bayview Campers Park, Oak Wood Acres Campground, and Lazy Dayz Campground in the immediate area. Just across the river in Lewis County, Missouri, Wakonda Lake - Wakonda State Park sits within a 1,054-acre state park with six lakes, and offers full-hookup sites (electric, water, sewer) on concrete pads at Wakonda Lake Campground.
Most sites in the region cater to travel trailers and Class A or C motorhomes. Larger rigs will find the fewest access issues at the private parks in and around Quincy and at Wakonda Lake Campground's newer loop, where concrete pads can accommodate rigs up to about 110 feet.
Things to do around Quincy
Water and river activity anchor most trips. Wakonda State Park has six lakes for fishing and paddling, with a sandy swimming beach, boat and kayak rentals, and interconnected hiking trails that follow the lakeshores. Anglers target largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish across the lake system, and several campsites offer direct bank access.
Inland, Siloam Springs State Park lies about 20 miles east of Quincy. The 3,323-acre wooded park has a small lake, picnic areas, and roughly 23 miles of trails that wind through forested valleys and ridgetops, with steeper sections in the interior.
In town, families can walk the riverfront under the Bayview Bridge, tour the historic Maine Street district, and drive the Great River Road north to Nauvoo or south to Hannibal, Missouri, Mark Twain's boyhood home.

The prime RV window runs from mid-spring through mid-fall. Missouri state parks, including Wakonda, run a two-tier calendar: on-season falls between April 15 and October 31, with off-season rates and reduced services from November 1 through April 14. DRIFTWOOD RV Park in Quincy is listed as open year-round, though services scale back in winter, and the pool operates only in warmer months.
Summer is the busiest stretch. Weekends fill early at Wakonda Lake and Siloam Springs, and summer highs frequently sit in the mid-80s Fahrenheit with high humidity. Spring and fall bring milder camping weather and much lighter crowds, though spring rains can push the Mississippi River up and briefly affect low-lying riverfront access.
Winter is quiet. Wakonda State Park stays open year-round with limited services, while several private parks reduce operations. Migratory waterfowl viewing peaks in late fall and winter, when the park draws Canada geese, snow geese, mallards, and other birds, with portions of some lakes closed seasonally to protect habitat.
How to book campsites
Missouri state parks, including Wakonda, use a single reservation system. Campers can reserve a Missouri State Parks campsite up to 12 months in advance, expanded from the previous six-month window, online at icampmo.com or by calling 877-ICampMO (877-422-6766). Weekend reservations require a two-night minimum of Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, and camping is limited to 15 days within any 30-consecutive-day period.
Illinois state parks, including Siloam Springs, use the Explore More IL reservation system (Camp.ExploreMoreIL.com), which accepts bookings up to 180 days in advance. Private campgrounds such as DRIFTWOOD RV Park, Bayview Campers Park, Oak Wood Acres Campground, and Lazy Dayz Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites.
For holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day), book electric and full-hookup sites two to three months out. Shoulder-season midweek stays can often be booked a week or two ahead.
What to expect on arrival
Site quality varies by park. At Wakonda Lake - Wakonda State Park, the newer campground loop offers full hookups (electric, water, sewer) with 50-amp service and concrete pads, some long enough for large rigs, while the older loop suits smaller trailers and tents. Shade is limited across the campground, so a canopy or awning helps in summer. Private parks in Quincy such as DRIFTWOOD RV Park tend to run tighter site spacing but offer full hookups, concrete pads, and closer access to town services.
Check-in at most private RV parks in the area is in the mid-afternoon. Cell coverage is generally good near Quincy but can be spotty in Siloam Springs State Park, particularly in the valleys.
Groceries, propane, and RV repair are all available in Quincy itself. La Grange and Canton, Missouri, cover basic resupply closer to Wakonda.

Most RVezy hosts allow cross-state travel throughout the continental US, and some allow trips into Canada with host approval. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals. Popular cross-border runs from Quincy include Hannibal, MO (about 20 miles), Keokuk, IA (about 45 miles), and Mark Twain Lake (about 75 miles). Gas prices in the Quincy area tend to run close to or slightly below the national average. For a typical 3-day trip to Hannibal and back with some local sightseeing (about 150 miles total), expect to spend roughly $50 to $90 on fuel in a Class C. Roads are flat to gently rolling, traffic is light outside of weekday rush hour on Broadway and 24th Street, and the main highways (I-172, US-24, IL-104) are wide and RV-friendly. Watch for the Memorial Bridge into Hannibal, which has narrower lanes (use the Bayview Bridge with your RV instead). Spring storms can bring heavy rain and occasional severe weather from April through June, and winter ice storms can affect December through February travel. The Great River Road (IL-96) heading north to Nauvoo is scenic but has curves and bluffs, so take it slow. Larger rigs add features like generators, outdoor TVs, slide-outs for extra living space, and even washer/dryer combos. Most rentals include seatbelts for every traveler. rvia.org/What add-ons can I get with my Quincy RV rental?
Hosts in Quincy offer add-ons that take your trip from good to great. Common options include kitchen kits (pots, pans, dishes) for $25 to $75, linen and bedding packages for $25 to $50 per bed, camping chairs and outdoor rugs, bike racks, generators for boondocking, and even paddleboards or kayaks for Mississippi River fun. Pickup and dropoff usually happen at the host's location (often near downtown or off Broadway), but delivery is widely available. Mileage policies vary by host, so check each listing carefully. rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Quincy%2C%20IllinoisHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy. You pay your trip total (rental fee, service fee, add-ons, and protection plan) by credit card at the time of booking, with no surprise off-platform charges from hosts. A refundable security deposit is also pre-authorized on your card before your trip, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig, and it is released after your trip ends assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid deposit issues, do the pre-trip walkthrough with your host, take time-stamped photos of the RV inside and out, and return it on time, refilled with fuel, and with tanks dumped if required. Pro tip: keep all communication with your host inside the RVezy app, that is your paper trail if anything comes up.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Quincy in the winter?
Yes, and winter is one of Quincy's best-kept RV secrets. From December through February, bald eagles gather along the Mississippi River bluffs near Quincy and Lock and Dam 21, drawing wildlife photographers from across the Midwest. Many hosts keep their rigs available year-round, especially four-season trailers with heated holding tanks and enclosed underbellies. You'll want shore power at your campsite to run the furnace efficiently (January lows average 20°F), and Driftwood Campground & RV Park stays open year-round with full hookups. Pro tip: message hosts to confirm the rig is winterized for use (not storage), ask about heated tanks, and pack extra propane. A winter eagle-watching RV trip from Quincy is genuinely magical.
