Campgrounds and RV parks near Rock Island, IL

The Mississippi riverfront is the anchor. Travelers can bike the Great River Trail, tour the Rock Island Arsenal Museum, or catch a riverboat cruise from the downtown landing. The John Deere Pavilion in nearby Moline is a reliable rainy-day stop for kids, and Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley is an easy afternoon. Paddlers and anglers head for the Rock River and the Mississippi backwaters. Lundeen's Landing Campground and Tube Rentals is a common launch point for float trips, and Camp Hauberg sits close to river access as well. Loud Thunder Forest Preserve has a two-mile moderate hiking trail and a 12-mile continuous loop, plus shared-use trails for mountain bikers, horseback riders, and hikers. Lake George, a 167-acre man-made lake with depths up to 55 feet, is stocked with bluegill, largemouth bass, and other varieties.

The camping season in the Quad Cities runs roughly April through October. At the Rock Island County forest preserves, camping is typically available from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in October as weather permits, and most private parks follow a similar pattern. Water access at the county preserves is weather-dependent and will not be available until nighttime temperatures stay above freezing, so early-April arrivals should confirm hookup status before booking. Late spring brings the greenest scenery and the highest river levels, along with the wettest weather of the year. May storms can flood low-lying riverside sites along the Mississippi and Rock rivers, so travelers should check park social pages before arrival. Summer is peak season. July and August draw festival crowds, including the Bix Beiderbecke Jazz Festival and John Deere Classic weeks, and weekend sites at commercial parks fill early. September and October cool quickly, deliver reliable fall color along the river bluffs, and offer the easiest weekend availability of the season.

Expect a mix of open, sunny sites at the commercial parks and shaded, wooded sites at the county and river-adjacent campgrounds. Full hookups, including 30- and 50-amp service, are standard at Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday and Interstate RV Park. Cell coverage across the Quad Cities is strong on all major carriers. Mosquitoes and river gnats are active from late spring through summer, especially near backwater sloughs. Pack repellent and check for ticks after hiking wooded preserves. At public sites, hookups are limited. RV pads at White Oak in Loud Thunder Forest Preserve offer water and electric, with only campsite W-26 providing a sewer hookup. Only one camping unit is allowed per site. Big rigs should call ahead to confirm site length and turning radius at forest-preserve loops.
