Campgrounds and RV parks near Shelbyville, IL

Shelbyville sits at the south end of Lake Shelbyville, an 11,100-acre reservoir on the Kaskaskia River with roughly 250 miles of shoreline. The lake is the region's main draw for RV travelers, ringed by five U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds and two Illinois state parks that together offer hundreds of sites, from primitive tent pads to electric RV loops. Eagle Creek State Recreational Area sits on the west side of the lake and Wolf Creek State Park Riding lies across the water to the east, both managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Robin Hood Woods Campground and Resort and Sullivan Marina and Campgrounds Resort operate privately near the shoreline, and Hidden Springs State Forest lies southeast of town for primitive camping in a wooded setting. The lake is deeper than most Illinois reservoirs, which supports a strong boating season and fishing for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, muskie, walleye, white bass, and bluegill. Full-service marinas, public beaches at Dam West, Wilborn Creek, Wolf Creek, and Sullivan, plus hiking, biking, and equestrian trails give RV renters a wide range of trip styles within a short drive of town.

Federal sites at Lake Shelbyville are booked through the national Recreation.gov system, which handles individual and group reservations for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds along with National Park Service and Forest Service sites. The standard booking window is 6 months in advance on a rolling daily basis, with releases at 10:00 a.m. Eastern time. Illinois state park sites at Eagle Creek and Wolf Creek State Park Riding are booked through the state's ExploreMoreIL reservation portal. Eagle Creek lists 75 Class A reservable sites with electricity, showers, water hydrants, fire blocks, and picnic tables; Class B/S and Class D sites are first-come, first-served, and the organized group camp area is reservable. Robin Hood Woods Campground and Resort and Sullivan Marina and Campgrounds Resort take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Hidden Springs State Forest is primarily first-come, first-served, making it a good option for spontaneous trips.
