Campgrounds and RV parks near Williamsfield, IL

Jubilee College State Park anchors most outdoor plans in the area. The park has more than 45 miles of multi-use trails originating from the camping area, open to hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian use, plus fishing in Jubilee Creek and two ponds, picnic shelters, and the historic Jubilee College site. Johnson-Sauk Trail State Recreation Area centers on 58-acre Johnson Lake, with boat rentals, a no-wake fishery, and hiking trails around the shoreline. Ryan's Round Barn near the entrance is a well-known local landmark. Winter visitors use the park for ice fishing, ice skating, and sledding as conditions allow. At Sankoty Lakes, activities focus on the water: fishing on three spring-fed lakes, a mile-long stocked trout stream, kayaking, paddleboarding, a beach for swimming, and birdwatching on controlled-cell wetlands that draw migratory waterfowl each year.

The main camping window at the state parks runs mid-April through early November. At Jubilee College State Park, full campground facilities including a shower building with flush toilets, dump station, and water hydrants are open April 15 to November 1, with the Coyote Cove loop staying open through winter for Class B sites with electric and primitive privies. Johnson-Sauk Trail keeps the Chief Keokuk Campground open year-round, but water, showers, and the dump station operate only from May 1 to November 1. Late spring is the wettest stretch, with May typically the rainiest month, and IDNR trails, especially equestrian sections, can close after heavy rain. Summer is warm and humid, with July the hottest month; RV sites at Sankoty Lakes are exposed with limited shade, so shoulder-season stays are more comfortable. Fall brings cooler nights, hardwood color through the Peoria County woodlands, and lighter crowds. Winter camping is possible at both state parks but limited to primitive dry conditions with no water service.

State-park campgrounds in the area lean rustic. At Jubilee College, sites are Class A electric or Class C with showers, with graveled pads, grills, water hydrants, and primitive toilets alongside a shower building. Johnson-Sauk Trail has 70 electric pads (Class A) and 25 non-electric tent-only sites (Class C), flush toilets, hot showers, a dump station, and RV access for rigs up to 40 feet. Sankoty Lakes offers 20 full-hookup pull-through RV sites with 30 and 50 amp service on large concrete pads, but the young trees provide little shade and the lakefront can be windy. Cell coverage is generally workable across the area. Expect insects in warmer months, pack repellent, and check trail status after storms since equestrian and dirt trails close when wet. Leashed pets are welcome at the state parks.
