Campgrounds near Bainbridge, Indiana
Bainbridge sits in Putnam County in west-central Indiana, roughly midway between Indianapolis and Terre Haute along the US-36 corridor. The town works well as an RV base because two Indiana DNR reservoir properties, plus several private campgrounds, are within a short drive. Cecil M. Harden Lake, home to Raccoon State Recreation Area, was created for flood control by damming Big Raccoon Creek and covers 2,060 acres.
Raccoon State Recreation Area is the largest option nearby, built around the reservoir with a mix of electric and non-electric sites. Fallen Rock Campground and Sunny Acres Lake Lieber State Recreation Area extend the choices south and west, and Misty Morning Campground and Sugar Creek Campground and Canoe Rentals add smaller, more private settings for campers who want quieter grounds or paddling access.
Lieber State Recreation Area sits about three miles south of Interstate 70 via SR 243, providing easy highway access for larger rigs heading to Cagles Mill Lake. The combination of interstate access, lake frontage, and state-park amenities makes the Bainbridge area a practical stop for families traveling by motorhome or trailer.
Things to do near Bainbridge
Water recreation drives most trips here. The 2,060-acre Cecil M. Harden Lake at Raccoon State Recreation Area supports boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing, with a beach, boat ramps, and marina access. Hunting is permitted in a designated 330-acre area of hardwood forest and open field in the southwest portion of the property, and an archery trail and range are also available.
At Lieber State Recreation Area on the 1,400-acre Cagles Mill Lake, anglers target largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill from docks and boats, and a seasonal aquatic center operates from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Sugar Creek Campground and Canoe Rentals is a natural pick for a paddling day on Sugar Creek.
Off the water, Parke County's historic covered bridges are within easy driving range, and the nearby Historic Mansfield Roller Mill preserves an 1880s flour and cornmeal mill that operated during Indiana's turn-of-the-century industrial period. Cataract Falls, connected to the Lieber property, offers additional trail access.

December - February
39° / 23°F 72 mmCold and quiet; water service off, icy roads possible.
Peak camping season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when beaches, boat rentals, camp stores, and the Lieber aquatic center are fully staffed. Summer weekends fill quickly at the state recreation areas, so booking well ahead is important for holiday dates.
Spring and fall are quieter and cooler, with strong fishing conditions and fewer competing reservations. Fall brings the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in October, which drives heavy demand for campgrounds across Parke and Putnam counties. Water levels can be a factor in spring: high water on Cagles Mill Lake has closed the Lieber SRA beach, courtesy docks, boat ramp, and adjacent parking lot in some years, though boaters can still launch from the top of the hill during those closures.
Winter camping is limited but available: Raccoon SRA and Lieber SRA are both open year round. Water service is typically shut off from November through mid-March or April, and campers should expect reduced services, cold nights, and the potential for icy access roads.

Richard was very responsive to any questions that I had prior to picking unit up. Trailer was very clean and still looks like new inside. Had all the basic necessities both inside and out to ensure easy set-up. Would highly recommend this unit if you are camping in Indy area. Donnie Luce-CA

I had a great vacation and the ease of renting the camper made it so much better than staying in a hotel. Richard made it an easy transaction and was there if I needed any help. The camper was accommodating, very clean and comfortable to sleep in. I won't hesitate to do this again in the future and look forward to having another fulfilled adventure.

How to book campgrounds near Bainbridge
Indiana DNR campgrounds, including Raccoon State Recreation Area and Lieber State Recreation Area, are booked through the state's camp.IN.gov system on the ReserveAmerica platform, or by phone at 1-866-622-6746. Campsite reservations can be made up to six months in advance of the arrival date, with the booking window opening at noon Eastern. Indiana State Parks are effectively 100 percent reservable, up to 11 p.m. Eastern on the day of arrival.
Private campgrounds in the area, including Fallen Rock Campground, Misty Morning Campground, and Sugar Creek Campground and Canoe Rentals, generally take bookings directly by phone or through their own websites. Availability on paddling weekends and during the covered bridge festival tightens fastest.
Before booking, confirm rig length limits and hookup type. At Lieber, Poplar Grove offers Class A electric sites with 30 and 50 amp hookups, while Sunny Acres has Class B non-electric sites.
What to expect on-site
State-run campgrounds around Bainbridge offer developed amenities without resort-level polish. Typical facilities include flush restrooms with showers, ADA-accessible fixtures, vault toilets in some loops, dump stations, frost-free water hydrants, and a seasonal camp store carrying firewood, ice, and basic supplies. Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, and campground check-in and check-out is 2 p.m. local time.
Sites at Lieber are generally spacious with asphalt pads, and non-electric loops tend to have better tree screening than electric loops. At Raccoon, wooded loops sit on a peninsula that divides Cecil M. Harden Lake.
Connectivity is the main compromise. Cell service is spotty to nonexistent throughout much of the Lieber camping area, so campers should download maps and reservation confirmations before arrival.
