Campgrounds and RV parks near Brownsburg, IN

Racing anchors the local calendar. Lucas Oil Raceway hosts the NHRA U.S. Nationals along with sports car and short-track events, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway runs the Indianapolis 500, the Sonsio Grand Prix, and Brickyard Weekend within a short drive. Raceview Family Campground sits 50 feet from Gate 4P on County Road 1000 E, directly across from Lucas Oil Raceway, and campers can walk to the track, pit areas, and grandstands through several gates. Beyond the tracks, downtown Indianapolis is a short drive for the Children's Museum, White River State Park, the zoo, and Lucas Oil Stadium. Families staying at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Campground during the fair itself have direct on-foot access to the midway, livestock barns, and grandstand shows. Outside city limits, day trips reach Eagle Creek Park to the east and the covered bridges and hiking trails of Parke County and Turkey Run State Park to the west.

Central Indiana runs a four-season humid continental climate. Indianapolis experiences very strong seasonal temperature swings due to its inland location, with warm summers, cold winters, and precipitation spread relatively evenly through the year, though spring tends to be wetter. Peak camping demand aligns with race weekends and the state fair rather than pure weather windows. Late May through early September carries the heaviest bookings. Raceview Family Campground runs a seasonal operation, opening for events such as the Indianapolis 500, Slamology, the NASCAR doubleheader, and the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Brickyard Weekend and the Indy 500 draw the largest RV volume, so surrounding lots and private campgrounds fill months in advance. Shoulder seasons trade racing crowds for milder logistics. Spring can be wet with thunderstorms and occasional severe weather, and fall brings comfortable days into October. Winter camping in the region is limited: at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Campground, full hook-up sites are available April through October (weather permitting), and electric-only hook-ups are available November through March, during which time the dump station is closed.

Facilities vary widely by property. Raceview Family Campground offers 265 RV electric sites with both 30 AMP and 50 AMP options plus 400 primitive sites, modern restrooms, hot and cold showers, and a well-lit camping area, with an RV sanitary station and fresh water fill stations. Expect a race-weekend atmosphere: generators, late crowds, and quick turnover between events. The Indiana State Fairgrounds Campground has 170 full-hookup sites with 20, 30, and 50 amp electric, water, showers, dump, and laundry, with spaces 1 through 77 reserved for Indiana State Fair workers and employees and spaces 78 and up open to the public. Sites are close together and the setting is urban, not wooded. At IMS lots, campers should plan for a parking-lot experience rather than a traditional campground. Fans camping at IMS should monitor weather conditions and plan ahead for inclement weather, have a personal safety plan for severe weather, and not rely on IMS for weather updates.
