Campgrounds and RV parks near Burlington, IN

Water is the main draw. Carroll County sits along Deer Creek, Lake Freeman, and the Wabash River, offering boat launches, paddling, and fishing. Fishing ponds and creek access at several private campgrounds make short day trips easy for families with kids. Historic sites round out a rainy day. Adams Mill, a grist mill built in 1845-46 near Cutler, is open on weekends for tours of its four floors of nineteenth-century exhibits. The 1872 Adams Mill Covered Bridge sits just up the road, with the Oxbow Natural Area and Eller Pond nearby for short walks and bird-watching. Delphi, the county seat, has the Wabash and Erie Canal Park with an interpretive center and connected trails.

The camping season in this part of Indiana runs roughly from April through October, with the summer months drawing the heaviest bookings. Summers in the Lafayette and Kokomo area are long, warm, humid, and wet, while winters are cold, snowy, and often windy. July draws the peak of the season for lake activity and family gatherings, so weekends at private RV parks fill early. Spring and fall are the shoulder seasons. Expect smaller crowds, cooler nights, and unpredictable weather. Spring rains are heaviest from April through June, which can leave low-lying sites soft, and severe thunderstorms are possible from late spring into summer. Winter camping is possible but limited. Camping has always been available year-round at Indiana state parks, and a handful of sites at each state park with camping are now reservable year-round through Camp.IN.gov. Water is typically turned off from November through mid-March or April, and most private campgrounds around Burlington close or reduce services from late fall through early spring.

Sites around Burlington are rural. Roads narrow quickly off the state highways, and cellular coverage can drop in wooded river bottoms, so download directions before leaving Lafayette or Kokomo. Most private grounds in the area sit on flat, grassy pads with 30-amp or 50-amp electric, water, and a mix of back-in and pull-through sites suited to travel trailers and mid-size motorhomes. Larger grounds run to a family-camping atmosphere with fishing ponds, playgrounds, and weekend activities. Smaller grounds lean quieter and toward anglers and seasonal campers. Indiana State Park campground hours run 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and most private grounds follow similar quiet-hour rules. Bring bug spray from late May through August, a leash for pets, and buy firewood locally, since moving firewood between counties is discouraged to limit pest spread.
