Campgrounds and RV parks near Cambridge City, IN

Water recreation drives most trip planning in this corner of Indiana. Summit Lake offers fishing for bass, crappie, channel catfish, and sunfish, with small-craft rentals available in season. The lake is idle speed only, which keeps it calm for kayaks and canoes. The swimming beach typically opens Memorial Day through Labor Day with a modern bathhouse. At Brookville Lake, boating and fishing dominate the summer schedule. Quakertown has a 3D archery range with 23 targets, open April through August, and Brookville Lake is known for its recreational and sport fishing opportunities, with over 25 miles of hiking trails surrounding the lake. On shore, the Cardinal Greenway bike trail runs nearby for cyclists seeking longer rides. Historic National Road towns, antique shops, and the Whitewater Valley add rainy-day options.

East-central Indiana has four distinct seasons. Summers are long, warm, and humid, while winters are cold, snowy, and windy. Peak camping demand runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, with holiday weekends filling first. Spring brings variable weather and rising lake levels, but wildflowers and cool fishing conditions reward early trips. Rain is common, so RV renters should plan for muddy pull-through sites at the state properties. Blue-green algae is found in lakes year-round. Do not drink the water. Shower after you swim, which matters most during warm months. Fall is often the best window for a quiet trip, with cooler nights, thinner mosquito activity, and fewer weekend crowds. Summit Lake and Quakertown campgrounds accept reservations year-round, and lakefront sites fill quickly during peak season. Winter camping is possible at the state parks, but expect limited services and cold-weather hookup precautions.

Facilities in the area lean modern but basic. At Summit Lake, campsites have electric hookups with modern comfort stations, rentable open shelters serve day-use groups, and boat ramps are available for launching. Quakertown offers electric campsites with 20, 30, and 50 amp service, as well as full hookup sites with water connections. The campground features modern comfort stations with flush toilets and showers, and a dump station is available for RV waste disposal. Site-specific details matter for larger RVs. Maximum vehicle length is 55 feet at Quakertown, with grass surfaces and asphalt pads. For camping, check-in and check-out time is 2pm, except Sundays and holidays when check-in and check-out time is 5pm, local time. Two current advisories affect trip planning: due to an INDOT project, the bridge on Dunlapsville Road over Brookville Lake adjacent to Quakertown SRA will be closed through the 2026 recreation season, with no through-traffic on the bridge for the duration of the closure, and the beach at Quakertown SRA is closed permanently, though the beaches at Mounds SRA and Whitewater Memorial State Park remain open.
