Campgrounds and RV parks near Clermont, IN

Motorsports drive the calendar. Lucas Oil Raceway hosts the Indianapolis 500-related events, Ultimate Call Out Challenge, Slamology, the NASCAR doubleheader with the Truck Series and Circle City 100, and the NHRA U.S. Nationals, while the Indianapolis Motor Speedway a short drive east runs the Indy 500, the Brickyard 400, and the Grand Prix. Outside race weekends, families can reach the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Zoo, White River State Park, and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum within a 20 to 30 minute drive. Eagle Creek Park, one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, sits just east of Clermont and offers swimming, paddling, hiking, and a nature center. State park camping and hiking at Turkey Run and Shades are roughly an hour west for travelers wanting a forested day trip.

Camping demand around Clermont is event-driven, not weather-driven. The biggest pressure on sites comes during the Month of May for Indy 500 practice, qualifying, and race day, the Brickyard weekend in midsummer, the NHRA U.S. Nationals over Labor Day, and the Indiana State Fair in August. During those windows, sites at Raceview Family Campground and the Brickyard - Lot fill months in advance and minimum-stay requirements typically apply. Raceview Family Campground operates seasonally from late May through early September, so it is not an option outside the racing calendar. The Indiana State Fairgrounds accepts reservations year-round, with full hook-up sites available April through October weather permitting, and electric-only hook-ups available November through March weather permitting, during which the dump station is closed. Central Indiana sees fairly even precipitation across the year, with late spring and early summer being the wettest months, while winter brings snow and overnight lows well below freezing, so insulated rigs and skirting are advisable for off-season stays.

Expect urban and event-focused camping rather than scenic getaways. Raceview Family Campground sits on 55 acres with 265 RV electric sites at 30 and 50 amp and approximately 400 primitive sites, with modern restrooms and hot and cold showers, plus an RV sanitary station and fresh-water fill spigots placed around the grounds rather than at individual sites. Crowds, music, and engine noise are part of the experience on race weekends. The fairgrounds option is more straightforward urban parking. It accepts big rigs up to 50 feet with 170 full-hookup sites, 20/30/50 amp service, water, showers, laundry, and a dump station. Sites are tight and close together, and pet rules apply at most properties.
