Campgrounds and RV parks near Coatesville, IN

The centerpiece for outdoor activity is Cagles Mill Lake, a 1,400-acre flood-control reservoir west of town and Indiana's first flood-control reservoir. The lake holds 12 fish species that attract anglers, permits hunting in designated areas including in-season waterfowl hunting, and has boat launches for quick access to the water. The Aquatic Center at Lieber SRA is open during the Memorial Day to Labor Day recreation season and features a zero-entrance pool, water bubblers, and a tornado water slide, plus shelters, a volleyball court, and a playground. Cataract Falls, on the southern side of the lake, is home to Indiana's largest waterfall by volume, with picnic areas, shelters, a covered bridge at the Upper Falls, and a mile-long connector trail between the Upper and Lower Falls. Race-focused travelers can reach Lucas Oil Raceway and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in under an hour via I-70 east.

The main camping season in this part of Indiana runs from spring through fall, though Lieber SRA campgrounds are open year-round. State-park lake amenities including the aquatic center run from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Raceview Family Campground operates on an event-only schedule tied to the Indianapolis race calendar, opening for the Indy 500 in late May and running through the NHRA U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend. Summer weekends see the heaviest demand. Expect crowds on summer weekends and limited cell service throughout the Lieber campground, and holiday weekends fill months ahead. Summer brings the best conditions for lake activities, and the swim area and boat launch see peak use. Fall offers cooler nights, foliage, and lighter crowds. Water levels at Cagles Mill Lake fluctuate and have recently kept the beach and main boat ramp closed at Lieber SRA, so check current conditions before booking a lake-focused trip. Winter camping is possible at Lieber but with reduced services.

The Lieber SRA campground spans over 200 sites across multiple areas, with most tucked under hardwood and pine canopy around the 1,400-acre Cagles Mill Lake. Sites have asphalt pads and two picnic tables each, divided into Class A electric sites and Class B non-electric sites, with electric service running at 30 and 50 amp. Restrooms with showers, ADA-accessible facilities, dump stations, and frost-free water hydrants are available. Cell service is spotty to nonexistent throughout most camping areas. Sunny Acres has non-electric campsites only, with water spigots throughout and partial shade from surrounding trees. Private campgrounds add full hookups and family activities but can skew toward seasonal residents, so shaded nightly sites may be limited. Quiet hours typically begin at 10:00 p.m., and an Indiana fishing license is required. A park entrance fee applies at Lieber in addition to camping fees.
