Covington sits in Fountain County in west-central Indiana, along the Wabash River and just east of the Illinois state line. The area serves as a practical base for RV travelers heading to the sandstone canyons of Parke County or the lakes and forests along the Middle Fork of the Vermilion River in Illinois. Interstate 74 runs a short distance north of town, connecting the area to Indianapolis, Champaign, and points beyond.
Camping options in the region range from private RV parks to public state-run campgrounds. For state-park style camping, Turkey Run State Park lies southeast in Parke County, and Redear Campground within Kickapoo State Recreation Area sits a short drive west across the Illinois line. Together these properties give RV renters a mix of full-service private sites and larger public campgrounds within roughly an hour of Covington.
