Campgrounds and RV parks near Edgewood, IN

The headline attraction is Mounds State Park. The park features 10 unique earthworks built by prehistoric peoples known as the Adena-Hopewell, including the Great Mound believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C., and archaeological surveys indicate the mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies with astronomical alignments. A Nature Center with a wildlife viewing room and interactive displays is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and naturalist-led hikes and interpretive programs run every weekend throughout the year. On-water activity centers on the White River and campground lakes. The White River borders Mounds State Park and offers fishing for anglers with a valid Indiana license. At Muncie RV Resort, families use a catch-and-release fishing pond, a swimming pond with beach, a playground, and an off-leash dog area. Mystic Waters adds kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming across its bodies of water.

Central Indiana runs on a four-season humid-continental pattern. The warmest month is typically July, when averages reach a peak near 81°F, while January is typically the coldest month, with average highs near 32°F. Anderson accumulates around 21 inches of precipitation over the year based on rainfall days, with the wettest month often May. Late spring through early summer brings the best foliage but also the highest thunderstorm risk. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Weekends at Mounds State Park book heavily, so it is wise to reserve well in advance, especially for summer weekends and the more desirable shaded sites. Fall brings cooler nights, lower crowds, and reliable color through October. Shoulder and winter travel require planning. Most Indiana state park properties turn off water, close modern restrooms, and winterize full-hookup sites from late November through March. Private parks in the area vary, so confirm hookup status with the operator before arrival.

Sites in the area lean toward wooded, level, and family-friendly. The Mounds State Park Campground has 75 campsites, all with electricity and pet-friendly, and a dump station, bathrooms, and water are accessible from every site. Alcohol is prohibited in all Indiana State Parks including Mounds, and quiet hours are enforced typically from 11 pm to 7 am. Private resorts trend larger and better equipped for connectivity. Muncie RV Resort provides year-round camping with full hookups, restrooms, showers, and a dump station. Cell reception in the White River valley can be uneven, so download maps and confirmations before arrival. Pets are welcome at most sites but leashed. Pets are allowed at Mounds State Park but not inside buildings, must be kept on a six-foot leash, and owners are expected to pick up after them.
