Campgrounds and RV parks near Fillmore, IN

Water recreation anchors most trips. Cagles Mill Lake offers boating and fishing for largemouth bass, channel catfish, and bluegill, plus a seasonal aquatic center for swimming. At Raccoon SRA, the 2,060-acre lake features a large, clean sandy beach with concessions, boat rentals, and multiple boat ramps. Off the water, families head to Cataract Falls, a short drive from Fillmore. The park connects to nearby Cataract Falls State Recreation Area, home to Indiana's largest waterfall by volume. Historic Mansfield Roller Mill near Raccoon Lake is a preserved, working example of industrialization in Indiana at the turn of the 20th century. This 1880s flour mill uses machinery from that time to show visitors how flour and cornmeal were processed from wheat and corn. It is an almost complete and unchanged example of flour mills from this time period. Putnam and Parke counties are also known for covered-bridge driving loops, hiking trails, and an archery range at Raccoon SRA.

Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Aquatic Center at Lieber is open during the Memorial Day to Labor Day recreation season and includes a zero-entrance pool, water bubblers, and a tornado water slide. Summer weekends fill quickly at both Lieber and Raccoon, and holidays book out well in advance. Expect warm, humid days and afternoon thunderstorms. Spring and fall are quieter and cooler. Spring tends to be the wettest stretch, with lake levels sometimes running high after storms. High water can affect access: recent notices have kept the beach at Cagles Mill Lake's Lieber SRA closed, with courtesy docks, boat ramp, and nearby parking inaccessible, though boaters may still launch from the top of the hill. Fall brings foliage color through the hardwood loops and easier site selection. Winter camping is limited but possible. Lieber SRA is only a few miles south of I-70 on SR 243 and offers year round camping with class A sites available, and Raccoon SRA is also open year round, though facilities such as camp stores and swim beaches operate seasonally. Blue-green algae advisories can appear in Indiana lakes year-round, with reminders not to drink the water and to shower after swimming.

Have your reservation confirmation ready at the gatehouse, along with a photo ID. Standard Indiana DNR check-in is early afternoon, with adjusted times on Sundays and designated summer holidays, so confirm details on your confirmation email. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. Campers find spacious sites with asphalt pads and two picnic tables each at Lieber. Terrain varies: site conditions vary dramatically across Raccoon SRA, and many campsites require significant leveling due to steep grades, so bring leveling blocks. Cell service proves spotty to nonexistent throughout most camping areas. Firewood rules are strict on DNR properties, generally limited to kiln-dried lumber, wood from an Indiana home with the bark removed, or firewood purchased with a compliance stamp. Store food securely, watch for raccoons around the lakes, and follow posted quiet hours.
