Campgrounds and RV parks near Fountain City, IN

The town's anchor attraction is the Levi and Catharine Coffin State Historic Site, known as the Grand Central Station of the Underground Railroad. Admission includes a timed, guided tour of the Coffin home and a self-guided tour of the Interpretive Center, with tours offered Wednesday through Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., and 3:30 p.m. Reserving a tour time ahead of arrival is recommended. Nearby Richmond adds several stops, including Highland Lake Golf Course, Thistlethwaite Falls, and the Richmond Rose Garden, plus the 62-mile Cardinal Greenway rail-trail, which has an entrance a few miles from the KOA. Other regional draws include the Model T Museum, Wayne County Historical Museum, Hayes Arboretum, and Middlefork Reservoir, all within a short drive. On-site campground activities vary by property and typically include swimming pools, fishing ponds, playgrounds, and themed weekend events during the main season.

East-central Indiana has a humid continental climate with four distinct seasons. Late spring through early fall is the primary RV camping window, with warm days, long daylight, and full campground programming. Summer weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day fill earliest, so reserve sites six to eight weeks ahead when possible. Spring brings variable weather, occasional thunderstorms, and cool nights, but also lower campground demand and comfortable touring temperatures for the Coffin House and area museums. Fall is often the most pleasant stretch for RV travel, with mild days, cool sleeping temperatures, and autumn color across Wayne County typically peaking in mid to late October. Winter is the off-season. Many private campgrounds in the region close or shift to limited services from roughly late October through March, and freezing temperatures make water hookups unreliable. Travelers arriving in shoulder months should confirm open dates, hookup availability, and check-in procedures directly with the campground before booking.

Campgrounds in this part of Indiana are family-oriented and generally offer a mix of pull-through and back-in RV sites with 30- and 50-amp service, plus tent sites and cabins. Richmond KOA Holiday features big-rig friendly, 50-amp pull-through sites and deluxe cabins with full baths, along with a swimming pool, cornhole, fishing pond, playground, pedal boats, bike rental, and a dog park. Expect grassy or gravel pads, tree cover at many sites, and cell service that is generally reliable given proximity to I-70 and Richmond. Wi-Fi is available at most parks but can slow at peak occupancy. Summer brings mosquitoes and occasional afternoon thunderstorms, so pack accordingly. Quiet hours, campfire rules, and pet leash requirements are enforced at all listed parks, and firewood should typically be purchased on-site to comply with Indiana's out-of-area firewood restrictions.
