Campgrounds and RV parks near Gosport, IN

Gosport is a small town in Owen County along the White River in south-central Indiana, positioned within easy reach of state parks, reservoirs, and the wooded hills at the edge of the Hoosier National Forest. RV travelers use it as a practical base for outdoor trips centered on hiking, fishing, and paddling, with Bloomington and Spencer both a short drive away for supplies and services. The closest signature destination is McCormick's Creek State Park, Indiana's first state park, known for its limestone canyon, waterfalls, and forested trails. The park is open for day use, but its main campground remains closed indefinitely following EF-3 tornado damage, so check current status before planning an overnight there. Additional options in the surrounding area include Hickory Hills Campground, Misty Morning Campground, and Knightridge Campground. Reservoir camping is also within reach at Sunny Acres Lake Lieber State Recreation Area on Cagles Mill Lake, a 1,400-acre flood-control reservoir with boat ramps, a swim area, and camp loops on both electric and non-electric sides. Terrain across the region is rolling and heavily wooded, so drivers of larger rigs should plan routes on state highways rather than county backroads.

Indiana State Park campgrounds, including Sunny Acres Lake Lieber State Recreation Area, are reserved through the Indiana DNR's ReserveAmerica system or by phone at 1-866-622-6746. Standard campsites can be booked up to six months in advance, and reservations must be made at least two days before arrival. Cabins and shelters open on a longer window, up to twelve months out. For summer weekends and fall color weekends, book as soon as the six-month window opens at noon Eastern. Weekend stays require a two-night minimum, and holiday weekends require three nights. A daily park entrance fee applies to vehicles at all Indiana state park properties, with a higher rate for out-of-state plates. Private campgrounds in the area, such as Hickory Hills Campground, Misty Morning Campground, and Knightridge Campground, take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, and policies on deposits, pet fees, and rig length limits vary by property.
