Campgrounds and RV parks near Greentown, IN

Water recreation drives most trips. Mississinewa Lake covers roughly 3,300 acres and supports boating, fishing, and swimming at a sandy beach that opens Memorial Day weekend and closes after Labor Day, with no lifeguards on duty. Boat ramps and a marina provide launch access, and shoreline forests and prairies open up hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing on trails such as Blue Heron, Moswa, and Shepoconnah. Closer to town, Hidden Lake Campground has a swim beach and small lake fishing, while Spring Hill Campground offers amenities for families staying in the Kokomo area. Off-water options include the automotive and industrial heritage of Kokomo, and the James Dean Gallery and Fairmount Historical Museum near Hidden Lake.

The main RV season in this part of Indiana runs from spring through fall. At Mississinewa Lake, all facilities are open by May 15, the beach opens Memorial Day weekend and closes after Labor Day weekend, and the seasonal camping window runs May 1 through October 31. Winter drawdown of the reservoir begins in early October and is complete by December 1, and all boat ramps except Red Bridge close through winter. Private parks follow a similar rhythm. Spring Hill Campground in Kokomo and Hidden Lake Campground center their activity on the warm-weather months, though some private parks host seasonal campers who stay through longer stretches. Summer weekends and holidays fill fast, especially the Fourth of July and Labor Day. Late spring and early fall bring smaller crowds and comfortable temperatures, but campers should watch for thunderstorms, occasional tornado warnings, and blue-green algae advisories that Indiana DNR notes are present in area lakes year round.

Expect flat to gently rolling terrain, a mix of open farmland and hardwood pockets, and generally easy RV access on paved county and state routes. Sites at the Miami SRA range from full hookups to electric-only and primitive, with picnic tables, fire rings, and gravel pads, plus comfort stations, showers, a camp store, and an unsupervised swim beach. Private parks in the area lean toward long-term and seasonal campers, so transient RV renters should confirm site type and layout when booking. Cell coverage is generally good; public Wi-Fi at state sites can be intermittent. Campers should plan for humid summers, sudden thunderstorms, mosquitoes near water, and posted advisories about not drinking lake water and showering after swimming.
