Campgrounds near Harmony, Indiana
Harmony sits in Clay County, western Indiana, along the US 40 corridor between Terre Haute and Indianapolis. The town works as a practical base for RV trips into Parke County covered bridge country and the flood-control reservoirs that anchor the region's public campgrounds. Cecil M. Harden Lake, roughly 20 miles north near Rockville, is the closest large recreation area, and Cagles Mill Lake sits a similar distance to the northeast.
Public camping in the area is dominated by Indiana State Recreation Areas on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoirs. Raccoon State Recreation Area on Cecil M. Harden Lake and Sunny Acres Lake Lieber State Recreation Area on Cagles Mill Lake both offer developed loops, electric hookups, dump stations, boat ramps, and swim beaches. Smaller private options round out the mix, including Fallen Rock Campground, Willow Rose RV Park, and Misty Morning Campground.
Most RV renters use Harmony as a stopover between Indianapolis and Terre Haute or as a launch point for lake weekends and covered bridge touring.
Things to do near Harmony
Water recreation drives most trips. Cecil M. Harden Lake is stocked with largemouth and smallmouth bass, white and black crappie, bluegill, walleye, rainbow trout, and muskie, and five boat launches ring the shoreline, with fishing boat and pontoon rentals available on-site. A swim beach, kayaking on Big Raccoon Creek, and waterskiing are all in play during warm months.
On land, about ten miles of hiking trails wind through the surrounding forest, several with interpretive signs, and an archery trail near the gatehouse offers stationary and elevated-stand practice. History-minded travelers can tour the Historic Mansfield Roller Mill, an 1880s flour mill that still uses period machinery and is one of the most complete surviving examples of its kind.
Parke County's covered bridges are within easy driving distance, and the annual Covered Bridge Festival in October draws heavy traffic to the area.

The core RV season runs from mid-April through late October. Summer weekends fill quickly at the state properties, especially loops with electric hookups. Raccoon SRA usually has openings midweek given its size, but Friday and Saturday nights book out in peak season, so reserving early matters. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and heavy demand tied to the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival in October, when nearby lodging books out well in advance.
Spring is wetter and quieter. Trails can be muddy after storms, and lake levels fluctuate at flood-control reservoirs like Cecil M. Harden and Cagles Mill. Wildflowers and migrating birds are the payoff.
Winter camping is limited. Raccoon SRA is listed as open year round, but water systems at most area campgrounds are typically winterized from November through March, so RV renters should plan on electric-only service and closed showerhouses in the off-season. Blue-green algae advisories can appear on area lakes in warm months, so check current status before swimming.

Richard was very responsive to any questions that I had prior to picking unit up. Trailer was very clean and still looks like new inside. Had all the basic necessities both inside and out to ensure easy set-up. Would highly recommend this unit if you are camping in Indy area. Donnie Luce-CA

I had a great vacation and the ease of renting the camper made it so much better than staying in a hotel. Richard made it an easy transaction and was there if I needed any help. The camper was accommodating, very clean and comfortable to sleep in. I won't hesitate to do this again in the future and look forward to having another fulfilled adventure.

Great stay in this camper. It literally has everything you need or cooking, cleaning and comfort. They truly thought everything through and it made our life a whole lot easier. They had everything set up and ready to go and came and picked it up when we were done. Great stay!

How to book campgrounds near Harmony
Indiana State Recreation Area campgrounds, including Raccoon State Recreation Area and Sunny Acres Lake Lieber State Recreation Area, are reserved through the Indiana DNR's ReserveAmerica portal. Reservations can be made for the same day and up to six months in advance, which is the practical window for planning summer holiday weekends.
Private options such as Fallen Rock Campground, Willow Rose RV Park, and Misty Morning Campground book directly with the operator by phone or through the RV rental platform.
For holiday weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and for the October Covered Bridge Festival, reserve as soon as the six-month window opens. Midweek arrivals are far easier to secure than Friday and Saturday nights.
What to expect on-site
State recreation area sites are typically paved or gravel pads under hardwood canopy. At Lieber SRA, Poplar Grove offers Class A electric sites with 30 and 50-amp hookups, while Sunny Acres provides Class B non-electric sites with water spigots and pit toilets. Raccoon SRA offers a mix ranging from primitive non-electric sites to full-hookup sites with 50-amp service, though many pads are on grades that require careful leveling.
Amenities at the larger public campgrounds include potable water, flush and vault toilets, a dump station, a seasonal camp store, boat launches and rentals, playgrounds, and picnic shelters. Cell service is spotty to nonexistent through most camping areas. Firewood must meet Indiana DNR rules: locally sourced with bark removed, USDA-stamped bundles, or wood purchased on-site.
Raccoons and other wildlife are active at night, so secure food, coolers, and trash in the RV rather than at the picnic table.
