Campgrounds and RV parks near Hidden Valley, IN

The Ohio River is the main draw. Camp Shore Campground sits on the Ohio River Scenic Byway in Aurora and offers a boat ramp, dock slips, swimming pool, horseshoe pits, volleyball court, and playground. Beyonder Getaway at Rising Sun stands out for its dual camping options, with a riverside lower deck and an upper deck next to a stocked pond, plus a pool and family events. Rising Star RV Park sits next to Rising Star Casino Resort for guests who want boating access paired with dining and gaming. Off-site, families can reach the Creation Museum in Petersburg, Kentucky, Big Bone Lick State Park in Union, Kentucky, and downtown Cincinnati within roughly 30 to 45 minutes. Versailles State Park, about 25 miles west, adds hiking, mountain-bike trails, and a 230-acre lake for fishing and paddling.

The camping season in the Ohio River Valley runs primarily from spring through late fall. Camp Shore Campground is open from May 1 to November 1, and most riverfront parks in the region follow a similar mid-spring to late-fall window. BEYONDER Getaway Rising Sun operates on a longer schedule, though amenities such as the pool are seasonal. Summer is peak season. June through August brings warm, humid days with highs in the mid- to upper-80s Fahrenheit and the highest demand for riverfront and full-hookup sites, particularly around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. May is the wettest month in the Cincinnati area, averaging about 127 mm of rainfall, so early-spring campers should plan for muddy sites and possible Ohio River high water. September and October offer cooler nights, lower humidity, and quieter parks, making fall a strong pick for RV travellers with flexible schedules. Winter camping options are limited: most private parks close, and campers who stay through the cold months should confirm heated restrooms and winterized hookups directly with the operator.

Expect a mix of private RV resorts and rustic riverfront parks rather than dispersed public land. Camp Shore Campground has 30-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups, and family amenities such as pools and playgrounds are common at the larger private parks. Some sites sit directly on the Ohio River, so campers should be aware of seasonal flood risk and confirm site elevation with the operator before arrival. Cell coverage is generally reliable given proximity to Cincinnati, but tree cover and river-valley terrain can create pockets of weak signal. Pets are welcomed at most parks under leash and clean-up rules. Versailles State Park is open year round, though most Indiana state park properties turn off water, close modern restrooms, and winterize full-hookup sites from November through April, with camping still available at a reduced rate. Site leveling can be uneven at some riverfront locations, so bringing blocks and levelers is prudent.
