Campgrounds near Huntertown, Indiana
Huntertown sits in Allen County just north of Fort Wayne, placing RV renters within a short drive of northeast Indiana's lake country. The surrounding region is defined by glacial kettle lakes, hardwood forests, and rolling farm country, with camping options ranging from private resort parks to a full-service state park.
Private options close to town include Indian Springs Campground and Fireside Resort RV Park, both convenient for travelers who want quick access to Fort Wayne amenities. Blue Lake Resort Campground and Gordons Camping Resort add waterfront and family-oriented settings a bit further out, with typical RV hookups and seasonal activities.
Chain O Lakes State Park in Noble County anchors the public-land option roughly half an hour northwest of Huntertown. This is lake country and a small boater's paradise. Nine connecting lakes will be the center of your adventures at Chain O'Lakes. Paddle through the chain of serene kettle lakes, hike the 29 miles of forested trails, fish the electric-motors-only lakes, stay overnight in a forested hillside family cabin, visit the park's historic one-room Stanley Schoolhouse, or explore the Nature Center.
Things to do near Huntertown
Water recreation drives most trip plans. At Chain O Lakes State Park, RV renters can paddle interconnected kettle lakes, swim at the beach on Sand Lake, and fish for bluegill, largemouth bass, yellow perch, and northern pike. Only trolling and electric motors may be operated on the lakes at Chain O' Lakes State Park. Gasoline motors may remain on board, but may not be operated. Blue Lake Resort Campground and Gordons Camping Resort provide additional lakefront swimming and boating for families.
On land, the state park offers extensive trails, with roughly 29 miles of forested paths winding around the kettle lakes. Visitors can also tour the historic Stanley Schoolhouse and the Nature Center, which is open seasonally between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Fort Wayne itself, minutes south of Huntertown, adds children's zoos, science museums, riverfront parks, and dining for rainy-day backup plans.

Northeast Indiana runs a full four-season calendar. The average occurrence of the last freeze in the spring is late April and the first freeze in the autumn in mid-October, making the average growing season 173 days. Practically, that means the comfortable RV window generally spans mid-April through mid-October, with peak family demand from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Summer brings warm days, active lake use, and thunderstorms. There is an average of 39 thunderstorm days per year at Fort Wayne with most occurring from May to August. There are around 10 days with severe weather in the Fort Wayne area per year. Fall cools quickly and delivers strong hardwood color, especially in the oak and hickory stands around the kettle lakes. Mid-winter through early spring is the wettest time of year, with autumn the driest.
Winter camping is limited but possible. Chain O Lakes State Park is open year round, and many private parks close or reduce services from late fall through early spring. Snowfall averages 33.6 inches per year in the Fort Wayne area, so cold-weather RV travelers should plan for freezing overnight lows.

This was not just another camper rental. This was a true Air BnB experience. The trailer was immaculate and didn't miss a beat all weekend. The back patio area was amazing and trailer was spotless. Melissa and her husband crossed the t's and dotted all the i's on this rental from top to bottom: from communication, to drop off and pick up, everything was as smooth as could be. A great experience that we will definitely rent again one day!

How to book campgrounds near Huntertown
For the state park, reservations go through the Indiana DNR system. Reservations for Chain O' Lakes State Park Campground can be made through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reservation system. Reservations must be made 2 Day(s) ahead of arrival and can be made up to 12 Month(s) in advance. Sites can turn over quickly, and it's recommended to book well in advance, especially for summer weekends and holidays when the campground fills quickly.
Private parks such as Indian Springs Campground, Fireside Resort RV Park, Blue Lake Resort Campground, and Gordons Camping Resort each run their own reservation systems by phone or website. Booking four to eight weeks ahead is prudent for summer weekends. Indiana state park stays also require a daily entrance pass on top of the site fee, purchased on arrival or in advance online.
What to expect when RV camping near Huntertown
Expect Midwestern rolling terrain, hardwood shade, and level to gently sloped sites. Private resorts near Huntertown typically offer full or partial hookups, dump stations, laundry, and family amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and camp stores. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Allen and Noble counties.
At Chain O Lakes State Park, sites range from full-electric to primitive, with a camp store and dumping station on site. Most sites sit close together under heavy tree cover, creating challenges for RVs with multiple slides. Roads inside the park are wooded and can be tight for larger Class A rigs, so measure length carefully at booking.
Some practical notes: blue-green algae is found in lakes year round. Don't drink the water. Shower after you swim. Fishing licenses are required for adults, and pets are generally welcome at campsites but restricted from cabin areas and beaches.
