Martinsville camping overview
Martinsville sits in Morgan County in south-central Indiana, roughly midway between Indianapolis and Bloomington along State Road 37. The surrounding area gives RV travelers quick access to the wooded ridges of Brown County and the limestone canyon country west of Bloomington, both within a short drive south.
Options range from state-park campgrounds inside Indiana DNR properties to private RV parks with hookups. Brown County State Park near Nashville, Indiana features 401 electric (Class A) campsites, 17 of which are wheelchair accessible, located in Buffalo Ridge, Taylor Ridge and Raccoon Ridge Campgrounds. Sites include electrical hookup, picnic table, fire ring, parking spur, drinking water in the area, and modern restrooms and shower houses. Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground, on a 55-acre tract in Bean Blossom, is one of southern Indiana's largest campgrounds and is home to the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival.
Named campgrounds within roughly an hour of Martinsville include Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground, Knightridge Campground, Brown County / Nashville KOA Holiday, McCormick's Creek State Park, and Buffalo Ridge in Brown County State Park. Note that the McCormick's Creek campground remains closed indefinitely as cleanup continues after tornado damage, so verify status before booking.
Things to do near Martinsville
Brown County State Park is the anchor attraction for RV travelers based near Martinsville. The park is nicknamed the Little Smokies because the area's rugged hills, ridges, and fog-shrouded ravines resemble the Great Smoky Mountains, and its trail system, nature center, and scenic vistas draw visitors year round. The town of Nashville, just outside the park's west entrance, adds shops, restaurants, and the Brown County Playhouse.
McCormick's Creek State Park, about 45 minutes southwest, is Indiana's oldest state park. The property is known for its limestone canyon, creek, and waterfall, along with a fire tower and the historic Statehouse Quarry. The park is open for day use with the nature center and Canyon Inn operating, though the campground and several trails remain closed after the March 2023 tornado.
Bluegrass fans can time a stay around events at Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground in Bean Blossom, home of the Bean Blossom Bluegrass Festival.

South-central Indiana runs on four distinct seasons. Summers are warm and humid and are the busiest camping stretch, with families filling state park loops around holiday weekends and school breaks. Spring brings wildflowers, higher rainfall, and green-up along the ridges, while thunderstorms are common from late spring into summer.
Fall is the marquee season for this region. Brown County State Park, Indiana's largest, is a traditional fall color destination with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland. October weekends in and around Nashville and the park book up early, and the town itself draws heavy day-trip traffic.
Winter camping is limited but possible. Brown County State Park offers winter camping in some of its campgrounds from early November through late March. Buffalo Ridge remains open year round with electric hookup sites, a heated bathhouse, and a water fill station, while most other loops move to reduced facilities. Full services generally resume in mid April and run through October.

Pulled into the campground with Roam Sweet Home set up and ready to go! I was hesitant at first, being my first time renting on rvezy, but Nate and his team really boosted my confidence. Communication was excellent, dropoff and pickup A+, and the camping went on with zero issues. Thank you for letting us use your home away from home!

How to book near Martinsville
Indiana State Park campgrounds, including Buffalo Ridge in Brown County State Park, use the Indiana DNR reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations for Brown County State Park campgrounds can be made up to 6 months in advance, and must be booked at least one day ahead of arrival. Properties also rent to first-come, first-serve campers on the day of arrival only, if sites are available.
Private parks book directly. Brown County / Nashville KOA Holiday takes reservations through the KOA website, and Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground handles bookings through its own office, particularly around festival weekends when RV sites go quickly.
For fall color weekends and summer holidays, reserve as early as the six-month window opens. Verify current campground status at McCormick's Creek State Park before planning a stay there, as the campground remains closed indefinitely.
What to expect near Martinsville
Expect wooded, rolling terrain rather than flat Midwestern farmland. Brown County is nicknamed the Little Smokies for its rugged hills and ravines. Roads into Brown County State Park and to campgrounds along ridgelines can be winding, and some sites are sloped. All RVs and vehicles towing trailers must use the park's West Entrance off SR 46 two miles west of Nashville, because the North Entrance has a historic covered bridge with a 9-foot height clearance and 3-ton weight limit that prohibits over-size vehicles.
Most state park sites offer electric hookups only, with water fill stations and dump stations shared across the campground. Modern restrooms with showers are provided, and a dump station is available in the park for RV users. Cell coverage is generally usable but variable in the deeper hollows. Check pad length and slope in advance, and bring leveling blocks.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Martinsville, IN
How much does an RV rental in Martinsville, IN typically cost?
RV rental in Martinsville is affordable compared to bigger metros like Indianapolis. On RVezy, you'll typically see travel trailers from about $90 to $150 per night, Class C motorhomes from $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs from $250 to $400 per night. Weekday bookings and shoulder-season trips in April or late September often unlock the best rates. For a cheap RV rental Martinsville families love, filter by travel trailers under $125 and look for hosts who offer free local delivery. Pro tip: booking a Sunday-through-Thursday stay near Morgan-Monroe State Forest can save you noticeably versus a Friday pickup before a Brown County fall-foliage weekend.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinsville,%20IndianaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in Martinsville?
Good news: a regular Indiana driver's license (or your home state/country equivalent) is all you need to rent an RV in Martinsville. Indiana does not require a commercial driver's license or special endorsement for personal RVs, even larger Class A motorhomes. You'll generally need to be 25 or older to be an approved driver on RVezy, and your ID is verified securely through the platform during checkout. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home license. Most first-time renters in Morgan County are surprised how quick the whole process is, often under five minutes from booking to confirmation.

Every RV rental in Indiana booked on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can head toward Morgan-Monroe State Forest with real peace of mind. Protection plans cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you select your coverage level (Basic, Standard, or Premium) at checkout. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides substantial financial protection for the vehicle so a flat tire on State Road 37 or a scrape at a tight campground turn won't ruin your vacation. Pro tip: many Martinsville renters pick Standard for a strong balance of coverage and price.

Life happens, and RVezy makes it low-risk to lock in your Martinsville RV trip today. Cancellation policies are set by RVezy (not by individual hosts) and include a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. You can review the full policy during checkout. The bottom line: book with confidence, and our support team is available before, during, and after your trip if plans change.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Martinsville?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental Martinsville options are easy to find on RVezy. Just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching, and you'll see hosts who welcome dogs (some allow cats too). Many Morgan County hosts are dog owners themselves and can share tips on the best trails. Once you're rolling, your pup will love the pet-friendly trails at Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Brown County State Park, about 35 minutes south, also allows leashed pets on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm any pet fee (typically $25 to $75 per trip) and bring vaccination records for campground check-ins.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/rules-regulations/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or driveway in Martinsville?
Yes, RV delivery Martinsville is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it's a game-changer for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer directly to your campsite at Lieber State Recreation Area, a nearby private campground, or even your own driveway, then level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system. Just use the Delivery filter when searching. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $4 per mile from the host's location, with many offering free delivery within 15 miles of Martinsville. Pro tip: ask about a setup-and-pickup package so you never have to tow or dump tanks yourself.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinsville,%20IndianaHow far can I drive on a Martinsville RV trip, and how does mileage work?
Your Martinsville RV trip can easily cover the best of southern Indiana and beyond. Each host sets their own mileage policy on RVezy, with many including 100 to 150 free miles per night and charging roughly $0.35 to $0.50 per extra mile. Some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, ideal for longer hauls. From Martinsville, popular drives include Brown County State Park (about 35 miles), Bloomington and Lake Monroe (about 25 miles), Indianapolis Motor Speedway (about 30 miles), French Lick (about 70 miles), and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky (about 175 miles). Pro tip: if you're planning a Brown County fall-color loop plus a Speedway visit, look for unlimited-mileage listings so you can wander backroads without watching the odometer.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinsville,%20IndianaWhere are the best campgrounds near Martinsville, IN to park my RV?
You'll find excellent best campgrounds near Martinsville within a 45-minute drive. Top picks include: Lieber State Recreation Area at Cagles Mill Lake (electric sites, beach, about 35 minutes west), Morgan-Monroe State Forest's rustic wooded campgrounds (about 20 minutes south), Morgan County Fairgrounds Campground (electric sites in town, seasonal), and Brown County State Park (Indiana's largest state park, electric and full-hookup sites, about 35 minutes southeast). Pro tip: Brown County books out months in advance for October weekends, so reserve early through the Indiana State Parks reservation system.
camp.in.gov/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Martinsville?
The best window for RV camping Martinsville is mid-April through late October, with two clear sweet spots. Late April to early June brings 65 to 80F days, blooming dogwoods, and quieter campgrounds. Then September through the third week of October delivers Indiana's famous fall color, especially in Brown County and Morgan-Monroe State Forest, with crisp 50 to 70F afternoons. Summer (July and August) is warm and humid, often in the mid-80s with afternoon thunderstorms, so AC and shaded sites help. Winter RVing is possible with a four-season rig and shore power, but most state park campgrounds close their water systems from late fall through early spring. Insider tip: the third weekend of October is often peak foliage, book months ahead.
weather.gov/ind/I've never rented an RV before, will I be okay driving one around Martinsville?
You'll do great, and Martinsville is one of the friendlier places in Indiana for first time renting an RV. Roads are wide, traffic is light outside of I-69 rush hour, and your host will give you a full hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering driving, leveling, propane, slide-outs, and dumping. Stick to State Road 37/I-69, State Road 39, and US-31 for your first miles. If city driving makes you nervous, just book delivery and let the host bring the RV to your campground. You can also message the host anytime during your trip with questions. Pro tip: take a short test drive through a large empty parking lot before heading to Brown County's twisty roads.
in.gov/indot/safety/What happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance, so a flat tire on US-31, a dead battery at Lieber SRA, or a tow situation on I-69 is just a phone call away. The roadside team helps with tire changes, jump-starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified service center. For mechanical or appliance issues (like a finicky fridge or AC), message your host first; many Morgan County hosts live within 30 minutes and can troubleshoot quickly, sometimes swapping parts the same day. RVezy customer support is also available around the clock as backup. Pro tip: save both the roadside number and your host's number to your phone before pulling out of the driveway.
rvezy.com/insurance-and-protectionCan I take my Martinsville RV rental across state lines or to Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Martinsville can easily cross into neighboring states. Most hosts allow travel through Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and Tennessee. Popular routes include the Kentucky Bourbon Trail (about 3 hours south), the Smoky Mountains (about 5.5 hours), and Mackinac (about 6 hours north). Cross-border travel to Canada is sometimes allowed but requires written host approval and confirmation that insurance coverage extends, so message the host before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental, as insurance and protection coverage do not apply there. Pro tip: if you're planning a multi-state loop, mention it in your booking message so the host can confirm mileage allowances and recommend favorite stops.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect, and what's a realistic gas budget?
Plan for honest numbers and you'll come in under budget. Class C motorhomes around Martinsville average 8 to 10 mpg on gasoline, Class A's get 6 to 8 mpg, campervans (Class B) hit 14 to 18 mpg, and a truck pulling a travel trailer usually lands around 10 to 12 mpg. Indiana gas prices typically track close to the national average. A weekend round-trip from Martinsville to Brown County and back (about 80 miles) costs roughly $25 to $40 in fuel for a midsize Class C. Pro tip: fuel up along I-69 in Martinsville before heading into the hills, prices can climb in Nashville and Story.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Martinsville?
For Indiana State Park campgrounds (Brown County, McCormick's Creek, Lieber SRA), book through the official Indiana State Parks reservation system as soon as your dates are set, ideally 3 to 6 months ahead for summer weekends and a full 6 months out for October fall-color weekends. The reservation window opens 6 months in advance to the day. Private parks and the Morgan County Fairgrounds Campground are more flexible, often bookable 2 to 4 weeks out for weekdays. Pro tip: if you strike out on Brown County, try Morgan-Monroe State Forest's first-come-first-served sites on a Thursday afternoon, they're rustic but rarely full midweek.
camp.in.gov/What are the local driving conditions like around Martinsville?
Driving in and around Martinsville is straightforward. I-69 (built on the former State Road 37 corridor) runs right through town and connects you to Indianapolis (about 30 minutes north) and Bloomington (about 25 minutes south). Within Morgan County, expect gentle rolling hills, two-lane country roads, and minimal traffic outside of weekday commutes near the I-69 interchange. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk, especially on State Road 39 and around Morgan-Monroe State Forest. Brown County's winding hills southeast of town are scenic but tight, take it slow in a Class A. Winter can bring occasional snow and ice from December through February. Pro tip: avoid the I-69 corridor during weekday rush hour when possible.

Indiana State Parks like Brown County and Lieber SRA have electric sites (most are 30/50-amp), modern restrooms with hot showers, dump stations, and potable water fill points. Morgan-Monroe State Forest is more rustic, with vault toilets, ideal for self-contained RVs. Morgan County Fairgrounds Campground in town offers electric sites with water and showers in season. Private parks typically include full hookups, Wi-Fi, and laundry. For dumping and refilling between stops, the Lieber SRA dump station is open seasonally. Pro tip: top off fresh water before leaving Martinsville and most hosts will let you fill on-site at pickup.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/brown-county-state-park/What features and amenities come with a typical Martinsville RV rental?
Most motorhome rental Martinsville options come fully equipped and ready to camp. Expect a queen or king bed, bunk or convertible sleeping for kids, a kitchen with fridge, microwave, stovetop, and sink, a wet or dry bath with shower and toilet, dinette seating with seatbelts, roof AC, furnace, and propane for cooking and heat. Larger Class A and Class C rentals often include a TV, awning, and a backup camera. Generator use is usually included for short runs, and many hosts provide kitchen kits, linens, and outdoor chairs. Wi-Fi can be spotty in Brown County's hills, so download maps and entertainment ahead of time. Pro tip: filter listings by Sleeps 6+ for a family RV trip Martinsville with room to spread out.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinsville,%20IndianaWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about for my Martinsville rental?
Hosts in Martinsville offer plenty of useful add-ons to customize your trip: bedding and towel packages ($25 to $50), kitchen kits (around $25), camp chairs and tables (around $15), generators ($15 to $30/day for trailers), bike racks, kayaks, propane refills, and pet packages. Delivery and setup is often the most-loved add-on, the campervan rental Martinsville or trailer rolls up to your campsite ready to go. Pickup is usually between 1 and 3 pm and drop-off by 11 am, though many hosts are flexible if you message ahead. Mileage caps vary by host (100 to 150 free miles per night is typical). Pro tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a kitchen kit on your first rental, you'll thank yourself when you arrive at Lieber SRA at sunset.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Martinsville,%20IndianaHow does payment and the security deposit work for an RVezy booking?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at checkout using a credit or debit card, never in cash to the host. Your booking total covers the nightly rate, your chosen protection plan, the service fee, and any add-ons. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) is pre-authorized on your card before pickup and released after a clean return, no damage, tanks dumped, and within mileage. To avoid issues, take date-stamped photos of the RV inside and out at pickup and drop-off. Pro tip: return the rig with a full propane tank and clean interior, Morgan County hosts are known to leave glowing reviews when you go the extra mile.
