Campgrounds and RV parks near Monroeville, IN

Ouabache State Park anchors the outdoor menu. A paved bike trail runs from the park into Bluffton, and visitors can climb the 100-foot fire tower or watch the resident bison herd from the observation area. Hiking trails range from short easy loops to the Ouabache Trail, a roughly 6-mile route that circles the property. Fort Wayne is the nearest metro for rainy-day options, including a children's zoo, science center, and the Allen County Public Library genealogy collection, one of the largest in the country. New Haven, just west of Monroeville, is home to the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society and the 765 steam locomotive, which runs seasonal passenger excursions. At the campgrounds themselves, expect swimming pools, mini golf, and organized weekend activities at the KOA and family programming at Woodbrige Campground.

Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when private parks host planned activities and pools are open. At the Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA Journey, the pool operates from Memorial Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Weekends around the Fourth of July and Labor Day fill first at Ouabache and at the KOA, so book well ahead. Shoulder seasons are workable. The KOA keeps full hookups available from November through April, but units must use a heated water supply line during those months. Ouabache State Park has RV and tent camping, with primitive sites open year-round, though water at individual sites is turned off in freezing months and Campground A closes in December for a holiday lights event. Northeast Indiana averages 39 thunderstorm days a year, most between May and August. Mid-winter through early spring is the wettest stretch, while autumn is the driest. Plan for humid evenings in July and crisp, dry days in September and October.

Sites at the KOA and at Ouabache handle a range of rig sizes. The Bluffton KOA accommodates RVs up to 90 feet with more than 100 full-hookup sites offering electric, water, and sewer. At Ouabache, campsites have 30/50-amp electric but no individual water or sewer hookups, so fill fresh water before arrival and plan on the dump/fill station. Expect flat, wooded or semi-open sites typical of northeast Indiana farm country. The KOA is close to town amenities, and campers should prepare for train noise, as locomotives pass nearby and sound their horns through the night. One health note for families: a blue-green algae advisory applies to Indiana lakes year-round, so do not drink lake water at Kunkel Lake and shower after swimming.
