RV camping near Montezuma, Indiana
Montezuma sits along the Wabash River in western Parke County, roughly 66 miles west of Indianapolis along U.S. Route 36. The town serves as a western entry point to Parke County, known as the covered bridge capital of the world, with 31 historic covered bridges spread across the surrounding countryside.
RV renters use Montezuma as a base for reaching a mix of private parks and public campgrounds. Peaceful Waters Campground and Covered Bridge Campground sit within the covered bridge corridor, while Horseshoe Lakes RV Campground offers lake-oriented sites nearby. To the east, Turkey Run Campground and Turkey Run State Park sit along Sugar Creek about 10 miles north of Rockville, with sandstone ravines, aged forests, and creek-side hiking on nearly 2,400 acres of protected land.
Combined, these options give travelers access to electric RV sites at the state park and additional private campgrounds within a short drive of the river, the state park, and the county's covered bridge routes.
Things to do around Montezuma
Turkey Run State Park is the main draw for hikers. Trails follow creek beds carved into sandstone, with ladders, stream crossings, and gorges that reward waterproof boots. Portions of trails use ravine streambeds as the trail surface and can become impassable during high water. The park also includes a suspension bridge, a historic covered bridge, the Colonel Richard Lieber Cabin, a swimming pool, and an interpretive center.
On the water, Sugar Creek is a popular canoe, kayak, and tubing run, and the Wabash River at Montezuma offers fishing access. Cecil M. Harden Lake (Raccoon Lake) near Rockville adds boating and swimming.
Off-trail, visitors tour the county's 31 covered bridges by car, stop at the Bridgeton Mill and covered bridge, and during the fall festival enjoy Wabash and Erie Canal tours, roast hog, and crullers in downtown Montezuma.

Turkey Run State Park is open year-round, but camping activity is heavily seasonal. Standard camping rates run from late April through early November, and most private campgrounds mirror that window. Summer is by far the busiest season, and autumn is a strong second for fall color along Sugar Creek and the covered bridge routes.
The single biggest event is the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival, a 10-day countywide event that always starts on the second Friday in October and draws more than two million visitors. Campgrounds throughout the county fill weeks in advance, traffic on rural roads slows significantly, and Rockville's courthouse square serves as festival headquarters. Montezuma itself is one of the festival communities.
Late spring and early summer bring the wettest stretch of the year, with May and June carrying the heaviest monthly rainfall totals; creek crossings on Turkey Run's rugged trails can flood after storms. Winter camping is possible at the state park, but off-season rates and limited services apply, and some private parks close entirely.

Richard was very responsive to any questions that I had prior to picking unit up. Trailer was very clean and still looks like new inside. Had all the basic necessities both inside and out to ensure easy set-up. Would highly recommend this unit if you are camping in Indy area. Donnie Luce-CA

I had a great vacation and the ease of renting the camper made it so much better than staying in a hotel. Richard made it an easy transaction and was there if I needed any help. The camper was accommodating, very clean and comfortable to sleep in. I won't hesitate to do this again in the future and look forward to having another fulfilled adventure.

Great stay in this camper. It literally has everything you need or cooking, cleaning and comfort. They truly thought everything through and it made our life a whole lot easier. They had everything set up and ready to go and came and picked it up when we were done. Great stay!

Turkey Run State Park sites are booked through the Indiana Department of Natural Resources reservation system at indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com, or by phone at 1-866-6CAMP-IN. What to expect on-site
The Turkey Run State Park campground has 213 electric-only sites, with 30 and 50-amp service, each with a picnic table, fire ring, and grate. There are no sewer or water hookups at individual sites, but two dump stations, potable water fill stations, modern bathhouses with hot showers, and both flush and vault restrooms are on-site. A camp store near the parking lot sells food and firewood. Some wooded sites slope and can be tricky to level, so bring blocks.
Check-out is 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sundays and designated holidays. A one-time park entrance fee applies to all campers on arrival, with a higher rate for out-of-state visitors.
