Campgrounds near Morristown, Indiana
Morristown sits in Shelby County in central Indiana, roughly 30 miles southeast of Indianapolis and a short drive from Interstate 70. The location puts RV travelers within reach of both the Indianapolis metro and the quieter farmland and small towns of the Big Blue River corridor, making it a practical base for families splitting time between city attractions and rural camping.
Private RV parks dominate the local inventory. S and H Campground, family owned and operated since 1968, has about 250 campsites for motorhomes, travel trailers, and pop-up campers, and sits along Sugar Creek with a 3-acre fishing lake and a 12-acre family fun park. To the east, Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Knightstown is located about 25 miles east of downtown Indianapolis, and Indianapolis KOA Holiday, Thorntree Lake Mobile Home Park and Campground, and Hidden Paradise Campground round out the nearby options.
Most parks in the area cater to families with pools, playgrounds, and stocked ponds, and full-hookup pull-through sites are widely available for larger rigs.
Things to do near Morristown
On-site activities at the local RV parks lean heavily toward family recreation. Mornings can start with a paddle on the lake, a round of gaga ball, or a ride around the park on a firetruck or hay wagon, followed by the pool, panning for gems, or games of volleyball, basketball, and horseshoes, with golf carts and pedal karts available to explore the grounds. S and H adds a swimming pool, miniature golf, hayrides, walking trails, and fishing, alongside themed parades and other planned activities.
Off-site, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the Children's Museum of Indianapolis, and Fort Harrison State Park are all within about an hour's drive. Attractions like the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and Fort Harrison State Park trails are also nearby. Downtown Shelbyville and the Big Blue River offer smaller-scale fishing and paddling within a few miles of Morristown.

The camping season in central Indiana runs from spring through fall, with peak activity from Memorial Day through Labor Day. S and H Campground is open all year-round, but really shines from April through October, with activities scheduled every weekend. Themed weekends at Jellystone Knightstown follow a similar April to October rhythm, with holiday weekends booking earliest.
Spring brings green-up and reliable fishing but also the region's wettest stretch, with thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches through May and June. Summer is warm and humid, ideal for pool days and river paddling, though afternoon storms are common. Fall delivers the most stable weather: cool nights, lower humidity, and color through mid-October.
Winter camping is possible at year-round parks, but many amenities close, pools shut down, and some private campgrounds reduce services or operate on off-season hours.

Pulled into the campground with Roam Sweet Home set up and ready to go! I was hesitant at first, being my first time renting on rvezy, but Nate and his team really boosted my confidence. Communication was excellent, dropoff and pickup A+, and the camping went on with zero issues. Thank you for letting us use your home away from home!

How to book campsites near Morristown
Private campgrounds in the Morristown area take reservations directly through their websites or by phone, and most also list availability through third-party booking platforms. At Jellystone Park Knightstown, reservations are accepted up to one year in advance, and holiday weekends fill months out.
Minimum-stay rules are standard on weekends and holidays. At Jellystone Knightstown, there is a two night minimum with a first-night deposit plus booking fee anytime except holidays, and a three night minimum with the full amount required for deposit on holidays. Check-in for RV sites is 2:00 pm with check-out at 12:00 pm, while cabin and camper rentals check out at 11:00 am.
For peak summer weekends and race-weekend traffic tied to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, book at least eight weeks ahead. Shoulder-season stays in April and October are easier to secure on shorter notice.
What to expect on the ground
Expect gently rolling farmland, mature hardwoods, and creek-fed campgrounds rather than dramatic terrain. About 70 percent of S and H's campsites are shaded by mature trees, and most are nestled along Sugar Creek or the 3-acre fishing lake. Roughly 100 sites are set aside for tent campers, including some primitive sites along the creek without electric or water service, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring.
Sites at family resorts tend to be close together, and gravel surfaces are common, so plan for leveling blocks on uneven pads. Cell coverage is generally reliable across Shelby and Hancock counties.
Mosquitoes and ticks are active from late spring through early fall along creeks and wooded sites, so pack repellent. Firewood is typically sold on-site, and Indiana rules discourage moving firewood between regions to limit pest spread.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Morristown%2C%20IndianaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Morristown, Indiana?
Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Morristown. Indiana only requires a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for vehicles with a combined weight over 26,000 pounds or longer than 45 feet, and virtually every RV on RVezy falls well under that. You'll also need to be 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the platform during booking. Visiting from out of state? Your home-state license works perfectly across Indiana. That's it, no endorsements, no road tests, no DMV trip. Most renters are surprised how quickly they go from browsing to booking their Indiana RV adventure.
in.gov/bmv/licenses-permits-ids/commercial-drivers-license-overview/What protection comes with my RVezy rental in Morristown?
You are covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Morristown, IN includes an RVezy renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so help is one phone call away whether you are parked at Whitewater Memorial State Park or driving I-70 west toward Indianapolis. RVezy protection plans help cover accidental physical damage to the RV and provide liability coverage, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. That means you decide how much peace of mind feels right for your Indiana RV trip before you ever turn the key.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat is the cancellation policy if my plans change?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every booking includes a money-back grace period after you confirm, so you can lock in your dates with confidence. Refund amounts depend on how far ahead of your trip you cancel, and RVezy also makes accommodations for serious events like natural disasters, which matters in Indiana where spring tornado watches and summer storms occasionally roll through Shelby County. You will see the full policy details during checkout. Tip: book your RV first to secure the rig you want, then reserve your campsite, that way if dates shift, the RV is the easier piece to adjust.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV trip from Morristown?
Absolutely, central Indiana is a dog-lover's paradise and plenty of pet-friendly RV rental options in Morristown are available on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching, and message the host before booking to confirm any pet fees or size limits. Once you are rolling, Indiana state parks like Whitewater Memorial and Summit Lake welcome leashed pets at campsites, with shaded trails perfect for cooler morning walks. Brookville Lake's Mounds SRA is another great pup-friendly stop about 60 miles southeast. Tip: pack a collapsible water bowl and a tie-out, central Indiana summers get humid, and shaded campsites with electric hookups mean you can run the AC for your pet during day trips.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/whitewater-memorial-state-park/Can the RV be delivered to my campsite near Morristown?
Yes, RV delivery in Morristown is one of the most popular options on RVezy and is a game-changer for first-time renters. Many local hosts will drive the RV to your campground, set it up, level it, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before they leave. Popular delivery destinations include Whitewater Memorial State Park (about 60 miles east), Brookville Lake's Mounds SRA, Summit Lake State Park, and Indy-area campgrounds like Indianapolis KOA Holiday in Greenfield. Use the Delivery filter when searching, and message the host with your campsite address to confirm the delivery fee (usually based on mileage). Skip the stress of towing or driving a big rig, your trip starts the moment you arrive.

in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/whitewater-memorial-state-park/When is the best time of year to rent an RV in Morristown?
Late April through mid-October is prime season for a Morristown RV trip, with the sweet spot being May, June, September, and early October when daytime highs sit in a comfortable 65 to 80 degrees F range and humidity stays manageable. July and August are warm and humid (highs in the mid-80s, lows around 65), great for lake swimming at Brookville. Fall foliage peaks mid-to-late October across Shelby County, often the most photogenic time to camp. Winters drop into the 20s and 30s with occasional snow, but some local hosts offer winterized RVs for hardy travelers. Tip: book a September trip, the weather is gorgeous, campgrounds quiet down after Labor Day, and nightly rates often drop noticeably.
weather.gov/ind/I have never rented an RV before. How does it work?
You are going to be fine, first time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, especially in a small-town setting like Morristown. Every RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup (or at your delivery location), showing you how to operate the generator, water system, slide-outs, awning, and everything in between. You can also message the host before booking with any questions, and RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip. Tip: start with a Class C motorhome or travel trailer for your first time renting an RV in Morristown, they drive more like an oversized van or pickup truck, perfect for the flat, rural roads around Shelby County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002336533-RentersWhat happens if I break down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so if you get a flat tire on US-52, a dead battery at Brookville Lake, or any mechanical issue rolling through central Indiana, one phone call gets help dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app, most local Morristown hosts know their rigs inside and out and can troubleshoot quickly by phone. Major service centers are available in Shelbyville (about 10 miles), Greenfield (about 20 miles), and Indianapolis (about 35 miles), so help is rarely far away. Tip: snap a photo of the RV's roadside assistance information at pickup and save it to your phone.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take the RV out of Indiana on my trip?
Yes, interstate travel within the United States is allowed and very popular. Renters from Morristown regularly drive into Ohio (Hueston Woods State Park is about 60 miles east), Kentucky (Mammoth Cave is about 230 miles south), Michigan, Illinois, and Tennessee, all covered under standard RVezy protection. Travel into Canada may be permitted depending on the host and protection plan, so message the host first if a cross-border trip is on the table. One important note: travel into Mexico is not permitted under any RVezy rental, as protection coverage does not extend there. Tip: a classic Morristown loop is Indy to Louisville to Mammoth Cave and back, roughly 600 miles of varied scenery in a long weekend.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much should I budget for fuel on a Morristown RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to estimate around here. Indiana gas prices typically run a bit below the national average, and central Indiana is mostly flat, which is great for fuel economy. Expect roughly 8-10 MPG for a Class A motorhome, 10-14 MPG for a Class C, 18-22 MPG for a Class B campervan, and 12-16 MPG for a truck towing a travel trailer. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop (say Morristown to Brown County State Park and back), budget around $80-$150 in fuel depending on rig size. Pro tip: fill up in Shelbyville or Greenfield before heading to state parks, prices along I-70 are often a few cents cheaper than rural stations near Brookville Lake.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Morristown?
For peak summer weekends (Memorial Day through Labor Day), book your Indiana campsite 3-6 months out, especially at Whitewater Memorial, Brookville Lake, and Summit Lake, where waterfront and full-hookup sites disappear fastest. Indiana State Parks reservations open up to 6 months in advance through the official camp.IN.gov system (powered by ReserveAmerica). For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, and October, 3-4 weeks ahead is usually plenty. Holiday weekends (July 4th, Labor Day) require the earliest booking, sometimes the day reservations open. Pro tip: if your first choice is full, set a cancellation alert, Indiana state parks see frequent cancellations 7-14 days out, and great sites open up regularly.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/reservations/What are driving conditions like around Morristown?
Driving an RV around Morristown is genuinely beginner-friendly. The area sits on flat-to-gently-rolling terrain in Shelby County, with State Road 9, US-52, and I-74 providing wide, well-maintained corridors to most destinations. I-70 (a short drive north) is your highway to Indianapolis or eastern Ohio. Summer thunderstorms can pop up quickly, so check radar before long drives, and winter brings occasional snow and ice from December through February. Watch for slow-moving farm equipment on rural county roads during planting (April to May) and harvest (September to October) seasons. Tip: avoid driving through downtown Indianapolis during weekday rush hours; take I-465 around the city instead, the bypass adds a few minutes but saves a lot of stress in a big rig.
in.gov/indot/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Morristown?
Indiana state park campgrounds are well-equipped and clean. Most sites near Morristown offer 30 or 50-amp electric hookups, with full-hookup (water and sewer) sites available at Mounds SRA on Brookville Lake and at Whitewater Memorial. Every Indiana state park has a centralized dump station (free for registered campers), modern bathhouses with hot showers, and potable water fill stations. Camp stores at Whitewater Memorial and Brookville stock firewood, ice, and basic supplies. WiFi is hit-or-miss in state parks, but cell service from major carriers is generally solid across Shelby County. Tip: fill your fresh water tank at the campground entrance before pulling into your site, the spigots there are typically higher-pressure than at individual sites.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/files/sp-Campground_amenities.pdfWhat is inside a typical RV rental in Morristown?
You will be amazed how much fits inside. Most RV rentals near Morristown come fully equipped: queen or king beds, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control (AC and furnace), and seatbelts for safe travel. Larger Class A and Class C motorhomes often include a TV, generator for off-grid power, and outdoor awning. Campervan rentals in Morristown (Class B) are more compact but include sleeping space, a kitchenette, and often a wet bath. Many hosts include kitchen kits (pots, pans, dishes), linens, and outdoor chairs. Tip: message your host before booking to confirm exactly what is included, some throw in bikes, kayaks, or grills at no extra cost.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Morristown%2C%20IndianaWhat add-ons and options can I get with my Morristown RV rental?
Hosts in the Morristown area offer a great range of add-ons to customize your trip. Common options include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, generator hours, outdoor chairs and tables, bike racks, propane refills, and even portable grills. Many motorhome rental hosts in Morristown also offer delivery and setup at your campsite (priced by mileage), which is a huge win for first-timers. Pickup is usually from the host's home or storage location, with dropoff at the same spot unless you have arranged delivery. Mileage policies vary, expect 100 to 150 free miles per day with reasonable per-mile fees beyond that. Tip: bundle delivery, setup, and a generator add-on for state park trips at Brookville Lake where many sites do not have full hookups.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Morristown%2C%20IndianaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy processes everything through the platform, so you never hand cash directly to a host. When you book, you pay the rental total plus taxes, fees, and your chosen protection plan using a credit or debit card. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) on your card before pickup, the amount is set by the host and shown clearly on the listing. As long as you return the RV in the agreed condition with the agreed mileage and a clean tank, your deposit is released after your trip. Tip: do a thorough walkaround video with your host at pickup and dropoff, this protects everyone and makes deposit returns smooth and fast.
