Campgrounds near New Haven, Indiana
New Haven sits on the east side of Fort Wayne along the Maumee River in Allen County, putting RV renters within a short drive of both private resort-style campgrounds and Indiana state park camping. The surrounding region is flat to gently rolling farmland with river corridors, small lakes, and mixed hardwood woodlots, an easy landscape for towing and for first-time RV drivers.
Closest to town, Indian Springs Campground offers full-hookup RV sites in a wooded setting with fishing lakes, a sandy swim beach, and a floating water park geared to families. Fireside Resort RV Park and Blue Lake Resort Campground round out the nearby private options, with cabins, seasonal sites, and standard RV amenities.
For a public-land experience, Ouabache State Park near Bluffton is the closest Indiana DNR state park, offering electric sites, hiking, a paved bike trail into town, and a live bison exhibit. Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA Journey sits along the same corridor and is a common overnight stop for travelers passing through on I-69.
Things to do near New Haven
Water and trails drive most trips. Indian Springs Campground has on-site fishing lakes, a swim beach, and a floating water park, which keeps kids busy without leaving the site. Blue Lake Resort Campground and Fireside Resort RV Park both lean family-oriented, with pools, playgrounds, and organized weekend activities in season.
Ouabache State Park adds hiking through mixed hardwood and pine plantations, fishing on Kunkel Lake, a paved bike trail that connects the park to Bluffton along the Wabash River, a climbable fire tower, and a live American bison exhibit inside the park.
In town, New Haven and Fort Wayne offer the Rivergreenway path system, the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo, minor league baseball, and Science Central, all within a short drive of any of the campgrounds listed.

The average last spring freeze is late April and the first fall freeze is mid-October, giving a growing season of about 173 days.
Summer is peak season. June through August brings warm, humid days, frequent afternoon thunderstorms, and the region's highest campground demand. Fort Wayne averages 39 thunderstorm days per year, with most occurring from May to August, so an awning strategy and a weather radio are worth packing. Mid-winter through early spring is the wettest part of the year, while autumn is the driest.
Fall camping in September and early October is the sweet spot for RV travelers: cooler nights, low bug pressure, drier conditions, and full color on the hardwoods. Ouabache State Park stays open year-round, but most private resorts winterize by early November.

This was not just another camper rental. This was a true Air BnB experience. The trailer was immaculate and didn't miss a beat all weekend. The back patio area was amazing and trailer was spotless. Melissa and her husband crossed the t's and dotted all the i's on this rental from top to bottom: from communication, to drop off and pick up, everything was as smooth as could be. A great experience that we will definitely rent again one day!

How to book campgrounds near New Haven
Ouabache State Park is booked through the Indiana DNR reservation system on indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com, online or by phone. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be booked up to six months in advance, so summer weekends and holidays fill quickly once the six-month window opens.
Private campgrounds around New Haven, including Indian Springs Campground, Fireside Resort RV Park, Blue Lake Resort Campground, and the Bluffton / Fort Wayne South KOA Journey, take reservations directly through their own websites, by phone, or through the KOA app for the KOA property. Book holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) as far ahead as possible; midweek stays outside peak weekends are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect at New Haven campgrounds
Sites in this area are typically level, grass or gravel pads with easy pull-through or back-in access. Full hookups (water, electric, sewer) are standard at the private resorts. At Ouabache State Park, sites are electric-only, with no individual water or sewer hookups at the pad; a central dump station and comfort stations with showers serve the campground.
Blue-green algae advisories can appear on inland lakes during warm months. At Ouabache's Kunkel Lake, the state DNR advises campers not to drink the lake water and to shower after swimming.
Indiana State Parks require a vehicle entrance permit, which can be purchased at the gate, and alcohol is prohibited in all state parks including Ouabache. Firewood should be bought locally or at the camp store to limit the spread of invasive insects. Cell service is generally reliable across Allen County and along the I-69 corridor.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Haven%2C%20IndianaWhat license do I need to rent an RV in New Haven, Indiana?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in New Haven, Indiana. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special endorsement for personal RV use, and virtually every motorhome or travel trailer on RVezy falls well under the weight threshold that would change that. To meet RVezy's approved driver requirements you will need to be at least 25 years old with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home country license. Most first-time renters are pleasantly surprised at how straightforward the paperwork is.

Every RV rental in New Haven on RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-469 or US-30 with real peace of mind. The protection plan helps cover most physical damage to the RV, and you can choose your coverage level at checkout (hosts do not set this). If a tire blows on the way to Pokagon State Park or your battery dies at Johnny Appleseed Park, one call gets help dispatched any time, day or night. Choose the level that matches your comfort, then go enjoy the Maumee River sunset on your New Haven RV trip.

Booking your New Haven RV trip is low-risk because RVezy (not individual hosts) sets a clear, platform-wide cancellation policy that applies to every reservation. There is a grace period after booking during which you can cancel for a full refund, with additional refund tiers based on how far ahead of your trip start date you cancel. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds the booking or provides travel credits. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in New Haven?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in New Haven is easy to find on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on the search page and you'll see listings from local hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats) with clear rules in the listing. Once you arrive, your pup will love places like Schnelker Park along the Maumee River, the off-leash Pawster Dog Park in nearby Fort Wayne, and the trails at Fox Island County Park. Indiana State Parks like Chain O'Lakes and Pokagon also allow leashed pets in campgrounds and on most trails. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and bring a portable water bowl, since summer humidity in New Haven can climb above 80%.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/about-us/rules/Can the RV be delivered to my campground or home in New Haven?
Yes, RV delivery in New Haven is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if it is your first time renting an RV. Many local hosts will drive the motorhome or travel trailer right to your driveway, a campground site at Johnny Appleseed Park, or a state park like Ouabache or Chain O'Lakes, then level it, hook it up to power and water, and walk you through every system. You skip the stress of towing or maneuvering a big rig through Fort Wayne traffic on I-69. Filter for Delivery on the search page, then message hosts to confirm the delivery fee (often based on mileage) and you are set for your New Haven RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Haven%2C%20IndianaHow many miles can I drive on an RV road trip from New Haven?

From New Haven you can reach Pokagon State Park in about 45 minutes (40 miles), Indiana Dunes National Park in around 3 hours (170 miles), Chicago in roughly 3.5 hours (175 miles), Hocking Hills in Ohio in about 4 hours (215 miles), and Mammoth Cave in Kentucky in around 5.5 hours (310 miles). Always check the daily mileage cap on the listing before booking, and message the host if you're planning a big loop. Pro tip: paying for a higher mileage package upfront is usually cheaper than per-mile overages.
in.gov/indot/Where are the best campgrounds near New Haven, IN?
There's a great mix of campgrounds within an hour of New Haven, IN. Johnny Appleseed Campground is right in Fort Wayne (about 10 minutes away) with electric and water hookups along the St. Joseph River, perfect for festivals at the nearby Coliseum. Jefferson Township Community Park sits just south of town with quiet, affordable RV sites. About 45 minutes north, Pokagon State Park in Angola offers full hookups, Lake James swimming, and the famous toboggan run in winter. Chain O'Lakes State Park near Albion features nine connected lakes ideal for kayaking. For resort-style amenities, Hidden Paradise Campground in Albion is a popular family pick. Book through the Indiana DNR reservation system up to six months ahead, especially for summer weekends.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/reservations/When is the best time of year for RV camping in New Haven?
The sweet spot for RV camping in New Haven runs from late May through early October, when daytime temperatures sit comfortably between 70°F and 85°F and the Maumee River corridor is at its greenest. July is the warmest month (average high around 84°F) and pairs perfectly with the Fort Wayne Three Rivers Festival. September and early October are the locals' favorite: mild days, cool sleeping weather, and brilliant fall color along the river greenways. Spring (April through May) is lush but rainy (April averages nearly 3 inches of rain), so pack accordingly. Winter trips are possible with a four-season RV, but most area campgrounds close from November through April. Pro tip: book Pokagon and Chain O'Lakes sites by March for prime summer weekends.
weather.gov/iwx/I've never rented an RV before. How do I know what I'm doing?
You're going to be just fine, even if this is your first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on orientation at pickup (or at delivery), walking you through the generator, slide-outs, water system, propane, awning, and dump procedure. Many New Haven area hosts also send a printed cheat sheet or video links you can review before your trip. You can message the host with questions any time, and RVezy support is available 24/7 before and during your trip. For your first New Haven RV trip, consider an easy-to-drive Class C motorhome or a delivered travel trailer set up at Johnny Appleseed Campground, so you can focus on enjoying the river and Headwaters Park downtown rather than backing into a site.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/What happens if I have a breakdown or roadside issue during my trip?
Help is just a phone call away. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan, covering things like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. If something goes sideways on US-24 heading toward Defiance, on I-469 around Fort Wayne, or out at Pokagon State Park, you call the number provided in your trip details and a technician is dispatched. You can also message your host directly through the RVezy app for quick troubleshooting (often a flipped breaker or a stuck slide is an easy fix). Pro tip: take a photo of the RV's circuit breaker panel and propane shutoff during your walkthrough so you have it handy.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my New Haven RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RV rentals in New Haven, IN, which makes sense given New Haven sits less than 20 miles from the Ohio border and within easy reach of Michigan. Popular cross-state runs include Hocking Hills, Ohio (about 4 hours), the Michigan lakeshore at Holland or Saugatuck (around 3.5 hours), and Mammoth Cave, Kentucky (about 5.5 hours). Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host and insurance terms, so message the host before booking if Niagara Falls or Ontario is on your itinerary. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Confirm your route with the host and you are good to roll.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I budget for, and what does gas cost around New Haven?
Budgeting fuel is easy once you know the ballpark. A Class B campervan rental in New Haven typically gets 18-22 miles per gallon (MPG), a Class C motorhome around 10-14 MPG, a Class A motorhome 7-10 MPG, and a truck pulling a travel trailer roughly 10-13 MPG. Gas prices in northeast Indiana usually run a bit below the national average, often $2.90-$3.40 per gallon at the Speedway and Murphy stations along Lincoln Highway and US-30. Diesel motorhomes can fuel up at the Pilot and Love's truck stops near I-69. Pro tip: for a 4-day, 400-mile loop to Chain O'Lakes and Pokagon, budget around $130-$180 in fuel for a typical Class C.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near New Haven?
For Indiana state parks like Pokagon, Chain O'Lakes, and Ouabache, you can reserve up to six months in advance through the official Indiana DNR reservation system (ReserveAmerica), and summer weekends genuinely do sell out, especially around Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Aim to book popular electric sites 3-6 months ahead and shoulder-season trips 4-6 weeks ahead. Private parks like Johnny Appleseed Campground in Fort Wayne fill up during the Three Rivers Festival (mid-July) and Johnny Appleseed Festival (mid-September), so lock those in early. Pro tip: holiday weekends require a 3-night minimum at Indiana state parks, so plan your itinerary accordingly and consider a Sunday-to-Thursday trip for easier availability.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/reservations/What are the local driving conditions like around New Haven for a first-time RVer?
Driving an RV around New Haven is genuinely beginner-friendly. The terrain is flat farmland and gentle river valleys, with no mountain passes, and main routes like I-469, I-69, US-30, and US-24 are wide, well-maintained, and easy to navigate in a motorhome. Avoid downtown Fort Wayne's older neighborhoods where some bridges and railroad underpasses have clearances under 12 feet, and stick to the bypass (I-469) when transiting. Winter driving (December through February) can bring lake-effect snow and icy patches, so most renters stick to April through October. Pro tip: the Indiana 511 traffic system gives real-time road conditions, and the stretch of US-24 east toward Defiance is a scenic, low-traffic warm-up drive after pickup.
in.gov/indot/2390.htmWhat amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near New Haven?
Campgrounds near New Haven offer a solid range of amenities. Most Indiana state park campgrounds (Pokagon, Chain O'Lakes, Ouabache) provide electric hookups (typically 50-amp), centralized water spigots, modern restrooms with hot showers, and dump stations on the way out, but not site-specific sewer. Private parks like Johnny Appleseed Campground and Hidden Paradise offer full hookups including sewer. You'll find dump stations and potable water fill at most Indiana DNR properties and at the Flying J on Goshen Road in Fort Wayne. Firewood is sold on-site at state parks (collecting your own is prohibited) and quiet hours run 11 PM to 7 AM. Pro tip: pack a 30-to-50-amp adapter just in case, since pedestal types vary park to park.
in.gov/dnr/state-parks/rates-and-fees/camping-fees/What features and amenities come standard inside the RV?
You will be impressed by how well-equipped most RVs on RVezy are. A typical motorhome rental in New Haven sleeps 4-8 people and comes with a full kitchen (refrigerator, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, heating and air conditioning, a dinette and sofa that convert to beds, and plenty of storage. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, outdoor speakers, awning, and onboard generator for boondocking. Every passenger seat used while driving has a seatbelt. Wi-Fi varies (some hosts include a hotspot), and most campgrounds near New Haven have solid Verizon and AT&T coverage. Pro tip: check the listing photos and amenities list carefully, and message the host if you need specifics like a CPAP-friendly outlet or a king bed.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Haven%2C%20IndianaWhat add-ons and options can I expect when booking a motorhome rental in New Haven?
Hosts offering a motorhome rental in New Haven typically provide a menu of helpful add-ons so you can customize your trip. Common options include delivery and setup (great for first-timers), a kitchen kit with pots, pans, plates, and utensils, linen and towel packages, generator hours, propane refills, bike racks, kayaks or paddleboards, outdoor chairs, and even pre-stocked firewood. Pickup is usually at the host's home in or near New Haven, often between 1 PM and 4 PM, with returns by 11 AM, though many hosts are flexible. Mileage policies vary, so look for RV rental with unlimited mileage if you are heading toward Indiana Dunes or Chicago. Pro tip: bundling delivery plus a kitchen kit often costs less than buying everything piecemeal.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=New%20Haven%2C%20IndianaHow does payment work, and what about the security deposit?
Payment is simple and secure through RVezy. You pay the full rental cost (plus any optional add-ons) via credit or debit card at the time of booking, with everything processed inside the RVezy platform (never cash to the host). A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card a few days before your trip starts, separate from your booking payment, and typically ranges from $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV. As long as the rig comes back in the same condition (clean, undamaged, with full fuel and empty tanks per the listing), the hold is released within a few days of return. Pro tip: take time-stamped photos and a quick video at pickup and drop-off so any questions about pre-existing dings on your New Haven RV trip are easy to resolve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksHow should I prepare for cold-weather or shoulder-season RV trips from New Haven?
Cold-weather RV trips from New Haven can be a real adventure if you prep right. From late October through early April, overnight lows often drop below freezing (January averages around 19°F), so look for listings described as four-season or with heated, enclosed holding tanks and good furnace performance. Many state parks like Pokagon stay open year-round and offer the famous refrigerated toboggan run, plus Ouabache State Park keeps heated comfort stations running in winter. Plan to use shore power for the furnace, keep a fresh propane tank topped off, and add an indoor space heater (if the host allows). Pro tip: message your host about winterization status and antifreeze in the plumbing so you know which water systems are safe to use.
