Campgrounds near North Manchester
North Manchester sits in north-central Indiana, roughly midway between Fort Wayne and the Wabash River lake country. The main draw for RV travelers is Salamonie Lake, a 2,665-acre reservoir constructed for flood control by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and managed for recreation by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. DNR manages several properties on the lake, including the Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area, Lost Bridge East SRA, Dora-New Holland SRA, Mount Etna SRA, and Mount Hope SRA.
Most developed RV camping in the area is concentrated at Lost Bridge West, which offers a Modern electric loop, the Apple Orchard Primitive area, and a dedicated Horsemen's Camp. The property has 335 total sites, 245 of them with electricity, plus 50 primitive equestrian sites, an Apple Orchard primitive campground with 38 sites, seven youth tent areas, and multiple shelters. Two dump stations and four comfort stations serve the campground, which is open year-round.
Private options fill in around the state land. Lukens Lake Resort near Roann is a family-focused park with a private beach and lake, and Forest Ridge Family Campground in Larwill offers a smaller wooded setting with a pool, playground, and full hookups within an easy drive.
Things to do around North Manchester
Salamonie Lake anchors most trip plans. The 2,665-acre reservoir supports fishing, boating, and swimming, with beaches, boat ramps, docks, and the Pirate's Cove marina providing access and services. Common catches include bluegill, crappie, largemouth bass, catfish, and walleye, and boating carries no horsepower limit outside idle zones. Sites 221-243 and 202-204 at Lost Bridge West are commonly cited for lake views.
On land, the property has more than 50 miles of trails used for hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling, including the 13-mile Bloodroot Trail that starts at the Upper Wabash Interpretive Center. The Horsemens Camp at Lost Bridge West gives equestrian visitors direct access to bridle trails. At Lukens Lake Resort, families use the private beach and swim area, and Forest Ridge Family Campground adds a pool, playground, and wooded trail loops for a lower-key stay.

Peak camping runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the beach, marina, and swim areas at Salamonie Lake are fully active and daytime highs sit in the upper 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Reservable weekends fill early in this window, particularly at the Modern loop of Lost Bridge West and at private resorts such as Lukens Lake.
Shoulder seasons are quieter and cooler. State properties around Salamonie Lake stay open through the winter: camping is available year-round at Indiana state parks, though some loops may close, primitive sites remain open, and electricity is generally available in the modern campgrounds while water is typically turned off from November through mid-March or April. Between November and April, many sites are available first-come, first-served on the day of arrival for campers who want to skip the reservation system.
Fall brings color to the hardwoods around the reservoir and lighter crowds. Winter camping is possible for self-contained RVs, but expect shut-off water lines and limited services.

How to book North Manchester campgrounds
State-managed sites at Lost Bridge West, including the Modern electric loop, Apple Orchard Primitive area, and Horsemens Camp, are booked through the Indiana DNR reservation system at camp.IN.gov or by calling 1-866-622-6746. The maximum booking window is six months prior to arrival, and many sites remain available from November through April on a first-come, first-served basis for the day of arrival.
Weekend reservations require a minimum of Thursday and Friday, Friday and Saturday, or Saturday and Sunday, and maximum length of stay is 14 consecutive nights. Campsites are capped at six people, with one camper and one small tent or two tents allowed per site.
Private parks such as Lukens Lake Resort and Forest Ridge Family Campground take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, and both offer nightly as well as seasonal site options.
What to expect on arrival
At Lost Bridge West, arrivals pay a per-vehicle gate fee that covers the length of the stay, with the entry receipt serving as an in-and-out pass. All access roads within the recreation area are paved, so RV campers rarely deal with muddy or dusty approach conditions, and paved lots at the interpretive center accommodate larger rigs.
The Modern campground includes scattered 50-amp sites, though most offer 30-amp service with water and, at some sites, sewer connections. Comfort stations feature modern restrooms with adjustable-temperature showers. The Apple Orchard Primitive loop and Horsemens Camp do not have electric hookups and rely on vault toilets and central water.
Quiet hours run from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. across Indiana DNR campgrounds, with a six-person site limit and vehicle caps enforced. Private parks in the area enforce their own family-oriented rules, so review the posted policies at check-in.
