Campgrounds and RV parks near Parkers Settlement, IN

Outdoor recreation centers on the two state parks. Harmonie State Park Campground sits along the Wabash River with hiking trails, bike trails, equestrian trails, a boat ramp, and a nature center, and outdoor recreation in the area includes boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, horseback riding, mountain biking, hiking, picnicking and wildlife viewing. The nearby town of New Harmony adds historic sites, shops, and dining a few miles away. Across the Ohio River, John James Audobon State Park offers camping, golf, fishing, hiking, tennis, picnicking, and playgrounds, along with the John James Audubon Museum and Nature Center. Bird-watching is a signature activity, given the park's namesake. Evansville itself adds zoo visits at Mesker Park, Angel Mounds State Historic Site, and family attractions. Holiday World and Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus is within day-trip range.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV travel in southwestern Indiana. Late April through May brings warming temperatures and blooming trails, though it is also the wettest part of the year and severe thunderstorms with occasional tornadoes are possible. September and October are drier and cooler, with fall color across the Wabash and Ohio river valleys. Summer is the peak booking season. June through August is hot and humid, with highs typically in the upper 80s Fahrenheit and muggy dew points. State park weekends, holiday weekends, and special events at Harmonie State Park fill quickly and should be reserved as far ahead as possible. Winter operations vary between properties. John James Audubon State Park's campground season runs March 15 to November 10, and Kentucky State Parks cannot guarantee the availability of water at campgrounds during inclement weather months when freezing temperatures are possible, and guests are asked to contact the park directly for available resources. Harmonie State Park and the Vanderburgh 4-H Center generally remain open with reduced winter services.

Harmonie State Park's campground is located about three miles from the entrance gate, so plan accordingly for check-in. The campground has about 192 campsites in a forested area near the Wabash River, each with electric hookups, a parking spur, table, fire ring and grill, plus 2 youth group tent areas and 11 cabins, and amenities include potable water, flush toilets, vault toilets, trash collection and a dump station. An Indiana entrance fee applies per vehicle. John James Audobon State Park has a smaller campground of about 69 sites plus five 1-bedroom cottages and one ADA-accessible 2-bedroom cottage near the front entrance along U.S. 41, with electric and water hookups and a shared dump station. Sites are relatively close to the highway and some noise is noticeable. The Vanderburgh 4-H Center provides sites with hookups, a bathhouse, and space for larger rigs. Kentucky parks prohibit the importation of firewood by campers from any state outside of Kentucky, so buy on site when staying at Audubon.
