Campgrounds and RV parks near Richmond, IN

In town, the Cardinal Greenway rail-trail, Hayes Arboretum, Thistlethwaite Falls, and the E.G. Hill Memorial Rose Garden give families easy half-day outings within a short drive of any local campground. The Cardinal Greenway is the longest rail-trail in Indiana and spans 62 miles from Marion through Muncie to Richmond, and its southern terminus is right in town, which suits cyclists and joggers traveling with an RV. On-property activities matter here, since sites sit close to the highway. Richmond KOA Holiday runs a seasonal pool and family programming, and Natural Springs Resort rents small boats and allows fishing from its spring-fed lake. For a lake day, Whitewater Memorial State Park offers a 200-acre lake and access to Brookville Reservoir, with shoreline hiking, flat-water boating, swimming, fishing, and camping, plus horse trails from the horsemen's campground.

The main RV season runs from late April through October. Private parks near I-70 stay open longer than the state park campground, but summer amenities like pools are date-limited, generally Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend at the KOA. Deer Ridge Camping Resort operates on a similar spring-through-fall calendar. Summer is peak. Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day) fill first, especially at Richmond KOA Holiday, which schedules themed events across those weekends. Weekday sites are usually easier to secure than Friday and Saturday nights, and full-hookup pull-thrus book earliest for large rigs. Spring and fall bring cooler nights and fewer crowds, with mid-October offering strong hardwood color through the Whitewater River corridor. Winter camping around Richmond is limited: seasonal private parks close, and cold, snow, and freeze risk make full-hookup service unreliable. Water is typically turned off at Indiana state parks from November through mid-March or April, so off-season travelers should confirm which loops and hookups are operating before booking, and expect reduced staffing and amenities.

Most Richmond-area RV parks sit within a few minutes of I-70, so highway noise is a real factor at some sites. Travelers have flagged this at both Richmond KOA Holiday and Deer Ridge Camping Resort, though both are generally rated well for cleanliness and staff. The KOA offers water-and-electric and full-hookup sites, with pull-thru and back-in options, and is pet-friendly. Large rigs generally fit at the KOA and Deer Ridge, and 50-amp service is common at both. Tenters and small-rig travelers have more choice at Grandpas Farm Camp Ground and Archway Campground. Natural Springs Resort adds cabin rentals to the mix. Expect family programming on summer weekends, gravel or grassy sites, and camp stores stocked with firewood, ice, and basic groceries. Cell coverage is generally solid along the I-70 corridor; Wi-Fi is offered at the main private parks but performance varies by site and traffic.
