Campgrounds and RV parks near Royal Center, IN

Water is the main draw. The Tippecanoe River is the big attraction, especially for canoers and kayakers, and visitors need to bring their own equipment or make arrangements with local liveries. The river and nearby lakes also produce good fishing. On land, Tippecanoe River State Park has 23 miles of trails, 9 miles of which are for hiking only and 14 miles of which are combination hiking and horse trails, all rated easy to moderate. A 90-foot fire tower built by the Works Project Administration in the 1930s offers a wide view of the surrounding countryside. For family days out, the Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday sits next to the amusement park itself, which features over 40 rides and attractions, including six roller coasters, water park slides, arcade games, and the famous boardwalk on Lake Shafer.

North-central Indiana runs a four-season calendar. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with mild days and cooler nights. Summer brings full access to all activities but tends to be crowded and humid, with peak mosquito activity along the river corridors. Summer is peak season. Sites at Tippecanoe River State Park and the Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday fill quickly around holiday weekends and school vacation weeks. Booking early is essential for prime riverside and electric loops. Many visitors bring extra insect repellent given the humidity and proximity to the river. Winter camping is possible but limited. Tippecanoe River State Park is open year round, though services are reduced in the cold months and many private parks in the area operate seasonally. The KOA and similar lakeside resorts typically run spring through fall, with reduced amenities on the shoulders of the season.

At Tippecanoe River State Park, expect an established state-park layout with a 112-site main campground set back from the river and a smaller tent area on the riverbank. Electric sites accommodate RVs up to 60 feet, with gravel pads and mature shade throughout most sites. Two comfort stations serve the campground, with Station A offering adjustable-temperature showers. Standard park rules apply: quiet hours run from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., pets must be leashed to six feet or less, and a carry-in, carry-out policy is in effect. The Indiana Beach / Monticello KOA Holiday is a full-service resort-style park with RV sites suited to large rigs, fifth wheels, pop-ups, and tents, plus Camping Cabins and Deluxe Cabins with full baths. Amenities include a swimming pool, splash pad, mini golf, boat ramp, camp store, and free trolley service to the Indiana Beach Amusement Park. Smaller local RV parks around Royal Center are quieter, more basic setups aimed at overnight and weekly stays rather than resort amenities.
