Campgrounds and RV parks near Sharpsville, IN

Water recreation drives most trips in this part of Indiana. The 3,210-acre Mississinewa Lake offers fishing, hunting, boating, and wildlife viewing, and campers at Miami State Recreation Area Mississinewa Lake can access swimming at the beach, boat ramps, and mooring areas near the campground. Smaller lakes at Hidden Lake Campground and river access at Riverbend Campground add options for kayaking and shoreline fishing closer to town. Off the water, the area leans rural: county fairs in summer, roadside farm stands, and antique shopping in nearby Tipton and Kokomo. Cyclists will find quiet county roads suited to gravel and light touring. For cultural stops, the Mississinewa area carries significant Miami tribal history, and Peru, Indiana, promotes its circus heritage with a museum and summer festival.

Camping season in north-central Indiana runs roughly late April through late October. Private parks near Sharpsville typically open in spring and close after the fall color window, while the state reservoir campground follows a defined season. Miami State Recreation Area Mississinewa Lake runs seasonal camping from May 1 through October 31 each year, with dates subject to change due to weather, rising lake levels, and other unforeseeable events. All facilities are generally open by mid-May, and the beach opens Memorial Day weekend and closes after Labor Day weekend. Summer is peak. Weekends fill early at both private and state sites, and holiday weekends should be booked months out. Late spring and early fall are quieter and cooler, with fewer bugs and good fishing. Water levels are worth watching. Flooding can close the beach, boat ramps, and mooring areas at Miami SRA, and the long-term seasonal campground can be evacuated during high water even while regular family campsites remain usable. Winter drawdown begins in early October and is complete by December 1, and most ramps close for winter.
