Campgrounds and RV parks near Shorewood Forest, IN

Shorewood Forest is a residential community in Porter County, Indiana, roughly a 20 to 30 minute drive from the Lake Michigan shoreline. It sits in the middle of one of the strongest camping corridors in northern Indiana, with public and private campgrounds spread across the Indiana Dunes area, Cedar Lake, and points south toward the Kankakee River basin. The closest RV-friendly options include Lakeshore Camp Resort and Sand Creek Campground, both within easy reach for families staying near the dunes. Indiana Dunes National Park hugs 15 miles of the southern shore of Lake Michigan, with Dunewood serving as its only developed campground. Indiana Dunes State Park sits adjacent to the national park along the Lake Michigan shore and offers a larger, higher-service campground closer to the main beach. For travelers looking farther inland, Cedar Lake Bible Retreat and RV Park provides a quieter alternative to the busy lakeshore parks, useful when summer weekends fill up along the coast.

Reservations work through different systems depending on the park. State Park camping reservations can be made by visiting indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com or by calling 1 (866) 6-CAMPIN. Reservations can be made for today and can be made up to 6 months in advance at Indiana Dunes State Park, so a rolling six-month window is the practical planning horizon. Dunewood at Indiana Dunes National Park uses the federal system. Reservations are required through Recreation.gov on a rolling 6-month window, with sites first available starting November 15 for the following camping season. Summer weekends often clear out the reservable inventory the moment the window opens. Private parks including Lakeshore Camp Resort, Sand Creek Campground, and Cedar Lake Bible Retreat and RV Park take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and generally require less lead time than the public parks.
