Campgrounds and RV parks near St. Leon, IN

Water recreation drives most trips in the area. Boating, fishing, hunting, hiking, and swimming are all available across the combined Brookville and Whitewater properties, which total more than 13,500 acres of land. Brookville is also one of the few Indiana sites where walleye grow big enough for fisheries biologists to milk the females for eggs to supply walleye fry to lakes statewide. On land, Quakertown State Recreation Area operates a 3D archery range with 23 targets located next to the camp gate, open April through August, Thursday to Sunday. Batesville KOA Journey adds two swimming pools and a splash pad zone, plus a lake with a boat ramp, a beach, and fishing where no license is required. Metamora Historic Site sits about 10 miles from Brookville Lake, and Kings Island amusement park is around 65 miles away, both within easy day-trip range.

The regional camping season runs roughly late April through late October, with private parks and the county park operating on defined seasons while state-managed sites at Brookville Lake stay open year round. Franklin County Park lists tentative season dates of April 24 through October 25. Brookville Lake, including Quakertown SRA, is open all year. Summer is the busiest window. At Batesville KOA Journey, the pools and splash zone open Memorial Day through Labor Day. At Brookville Lake, swimming is typically allowed from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day each season. Weekends around July 4 and Labor Day tend to sell out well in advance. Two current access notes matter for trip planning. Due to an INDOT project, the bridge on Dunlapsville Road over Brookville Lake adjacent to Quakertown SRA is closed starting March 23 through the 2026 recreation season, with no through-traffic; visitors follow the detour via State Road 101 to S.R. 44 to S.R. 1. The beach at Quakertown SRA is closed permanently, though the beaches at Mounds SRA and Whitewater Memorial State Park remain open.

Hookups vary widely between operators. Quakertown SRA is an electric-only campground with paved, mostly level sites and amenities including restrooms, showers, a dump station, a playground, and a drinking fountain. The Brookville Lake properties are managed jointly with the Corps of Engineers and offer both tent and RV camping, with Mounds SRA carrying additional site types. Batesville KOA Journey has pull-through and back-in RV sites with water and 50/30/20 amp electric, some full-hookup sites, and pull-through sites at least 65 feet long; pets are welcome. Franklin County Park offers primitive, electric, and water-and-electric sites with a dump station, 30 and 50 amp service, showers, and restrooms. At Brookville Lake campgrounds, quiet hours run 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and check-in and check-out is 2 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. on Sundays and designated holidays.
