Warren camping overview
Warren sits in Huntington County in northeastern Indiana, roughly midway between Marion and Fort Wayne. RV travelers using Warren as a base are within a short drive of two U.S. Army Corps of Engineers flood-control reservoirs, J. Edward Roush Lake to the north and Salamonie Lake to the west, both with recreation managed by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
On Salamonie Lake, the DNR operates Horsemens Camp - Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area and Apple Orchard Primitive - Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area, along with an electric loop at Lost Bridge West. On Roush Lake, Kil-So-Quah State Recreation Area has historically offered electric and primitive sites, though the DNR has announced the campground will close indefinitely as of late June 2026, so campers should confirm current status before travel. Private options in the area include Wildwood Outdoor Escape and Sports Lake Campground.
Sites in the region are typically wooded or lakeside, with a mix of electric RV pads, primitive tent areas, and dedicated equestrian loops.
Things to do near Warren
Water recreation drives most trips. Salamonie Lake covers roughly 2,665 surface acres and supports boating, fishing, and swimming from the public beach at Lost Bridge West. Roush Lake permits motorized boats on the main pool, with non-motorized craft and electric motors also allowed on the impoundments. Swimming is prohibited at Roush Lake.
On land, the Bloodroot Trail at Salamonie is a multi-use hiking and mountain-biking route, and separate horse trails serve riders based at Horsemens Camp - Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area. Interpretive programming runs out of the Salamonie Interpretive Center.
Families looking for pool time and stocked ponds tend to book Wildwood Outdoor Escape or Sports Lake Campground. Anglers can target largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and channel catfish across the Upper Wabash reservoirs.

The prime RV season in this part of Indiana runs from late spring through mid-fall. Late spring brings wildflowers, including the bloodroot that gives Salamonie's main trail its name, but spring is the wettest stretch locally and trails can be muddy after storms. Salamonie is a flood-control reservoir, so heavy rains can trigger temporary closures of the beach, horse trails, and some campsites. Roush Lake's campground and boat ramp are also subject to flood-related closures.
Summer is peak season. Weekends fill first at the electric loops on Salamonie, and holidays around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book out well in advance. Weekday arrivals see much better availability.
Fall delivers cooler nights, hardwood color through October, and hunting seasons on the surrounding fish and wildlife areas, which means hunter-orange requirements are advised on shared properties. Winter camping is possible at Salamonie's electric loops, though many amenities including shelter restrooms and water are shut off from mid-September through mid-May.

How to book near Warren
Indiana DNR sites at Salamonie Lake, including the electric loop at Lost Bridge West, are reserved through the state's Reserve America system at camp.IN.gov. Sites can be booked up to six months in advance, and popular weekends often clear out that far ahead.
Horsemens Camp - Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area and Apple Orchard Primitive - Lost Bridge West State Recreation Area are also handled through camp.IN.gov, though some primitive sites may be available first-come, first-served on the day of arrival. Kil-So-Quah State Recreation Area has historically operated first-come, first-served with self-check-in, but the DNR has announced an indefinite closure of the campground, so campers should confirm current status directly with the property before planning a stay.
Private campgrounds such as Wildwood Outdoor Escape and Sports Lake Campground take reservations through their own websites. A daily gate fee applies at Indiana DNR properties, with a lower rate for in-state plates.
What to expect around Warren
Terrain around Warren is flat to gently rolling farmland broken up by hardwood forest along the Wabash, Salamonie, and Little Rivers. Roads to the reservoirs are paved, and the state-park entrance drives handle large rigs without issue. The electric loop at Lost Bridge West can accommodate RVs up to about 65 feet, with a mix of 30-amp and 50-amp electric service; full hookups are not offered, and a dump station serves the campground.
Expect Midwest summer humidity, biting insects near the water at dusk, and afternoon thunderstorms in June and July. Cell coverage is generally usable but inconsistent inside the tree canopy.
Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, wild turkey, bald eagles at Roush Lake, and waterfowl on the impoundments. Blue-green algae is present in the lakes year-round, so check current advisories before swimming.

in.gov/dnr/state-parks/parks-lakes/salamonie-lake/What license do I need to rent an RV in Warren, IN?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Warren, IN. Indiana does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for the motorhomes, campervans, and travel trailers listed on RVezy, even the larger Class A coaches. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your local auto association, usually under $20. ID verification happens right through the RVezy platform during checkout, so you can finish booking from your couch and show up at pickup ready to roll.
in.gov/bmv/licenses-permits-ids/drivers-licenses/Is my Warren, IN RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Warren, IN booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the road with real peace of mind. The protection plan covers accidental damage to the vehicle, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, picking the tier that fits your comfort and budget. That means a hailstorm rolling through Huntington County or a curb tap at a Marion gas station does not have to derail your trip. It is not a substitute for personal auto insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection so you can focus on enjoying Salamonie Reservoir instead of worrying about what-ifs.

There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and additional flexibility depending on how far out your trip is. The exact terms that apply to your dates are shown during checkout and in your booking confirmation. If a host cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or helps you rebook. Pro tip: if severe Indiana weather such as a tornado watch or winter storm warning is issued before your trip, contact RVezy support right away so they can walk you through your options.

Many local hosts will tow or drive the motorhome straight to your campsite at Salamonie Lake, Ouabache State Park, or even a family member's backyard in Huntington County, then level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before they leave. Just use the Delivery filter when you search and message the host with your destination so they can quote the delivery fee. It is the easiest way to enjoy a Warren, IN RV trip without ever backing into a site.
