Davenport camping overview
Davenport sits on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities, where Interstate 80 crosses the Mississippi River. RV travelers use it as a base for river-town touring, family attractions in Rock Island and Moline, and access to the Rock River valley just to the south. Most campgrounds within a 30-minute drive fall into three groups: full-service commercial parks, riverfront family campgrounds, and county-run parks with electric sites.
Closest to the metro is Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday, a full-service park with RV sites, tent sites, and cabins on 150+ acres including a 50-acre lake open to fishing without a license. Interstate RV Park serves travelers who want a quick overnight near the I-80 corridor. For a slower, water-focused stay, Lundeen's Landing Campground and Tube Rentals offers partial-hookup RV and tent camping on the banks of the Rock River in East Moline, and Lundeen's Rock River Landing sits on the same stretch of river. Camp Hauberg occupies a wooded 40-acre parcel along the Mississippi River, about 2 miles north of Port Byron, Illinois.
Scott County Conservation also operates public campgrounds in the area with a mix of full-hookup, electric, and primitive sites for travelers who prefer county land.
Things to do near Davenport
The Mississippi and Rock rivers drive most of the recreation. Lundeen's Landing offers river-front sites, with 4 and 8 mile tube trips and kayak and canoe rentals, and Lundeen's Rock River Landing offers direct river access for paddling and fishing. Camp Hauberg has a boat ramp and boat slips for river activities, while an on-site office stocks ice, bait, firewood, and propane.
Family days are easy to fill. Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday has a heated outdoor pool, water-spray park, mini golf, horseshoes, fishing, and a jump pad. Off-property, Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley, the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island, the Figge Art Museum in downtown Davenport, and the trails at Black Hawk State Historic Site are all within a short drive.

The main RV season runs mid-April through mid-October. Lundeen's Landing Campground and Tube Rentals is open from April 1 to October 31, and boat ramp and dock use is included with a stay during that window. Camp Hauberg is open seasonally along the Mississippi, and most private and county sites shut water lines when freezing weather arrives.
Summer is peak season. Weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day fill first at riverfront and family-focused parks, and reservations for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends at Illinois state parks require a two-night minimum. Severe thunderstorms and occasional tornadoes are most common in late spring and early summer, and August is typically the wettest month.
Shoulder seasons trade crowds for cooler nights. Spring brings mild days and higher river levels that can affect low-lying sites along the Mississippi and Rock rivers, while fall delivers reliable dry weather, foliage along the river bluffs, and lighter bookings. Winter camping is limited to a small number of year-round loops at nearby county parks, with campsite water shut off through the coldest months.
How to book campgrounds near Davenport
Private campgrounds around Davenport handle reservations directly. Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday books through the KOA website or by phone, with cabin cancellations required 7 days prior, RV or tent site cancellations at least 48 hours prior, and holiday or special-event cancellations at least 14 days prior to arrival. Camp Hauberg takes reservations by phone at the campground office, and Lundeen's Landing Campground and Tube Rentals and Lundeen's Rock River Landing book through their own site and third-party platforms.
Scott County Conservation runs the county campgrounds in the area through an online reservation system, with limited reservable sites in the peak season and remaining sites first-come, first-served.
For Illinois state parks nearby, reservations go through the state's ExploreMoreIL system. IDNR camping and shelter reservations are no longer taken through the mail or over the phone. Reservations must be booked a minimum of three days in advance of arrival, and no more than 180 days in advance, with a maximum of 14 nights within a 30-day period.
What to expect at Davenport campgrounds
Hookups vary by park. Rock Island / Quad Cities KOA Holiday has full hookups with 50/30 amp, pull-through sites, a dump station, and on-site RV repair. Camp Hauberg offers large shaded campsites with 30 amp electric service and water hook-ups, plus a clean modern shower house, and amenities include a dump station, fire rings, and picnic tables. Lundeen's Landing has 30/50 pull-thru sites, boat docks, and canoe, kayak and tube rentals, with full use of the boat ramp and docks included from April to Halloween.
Expect biting insects near the water in summer, train noise at riverfront sites along the Great River Road corridor, and a strong seasonal-camper presence at the smaller Rock River parks.

scottcountyiowa.gov/conservation/parks/west-lakeWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Davenport?
Late May through early October is prime time for a Davenport RV trip, with daytime highs from 70°F to mid-80s°F and warm Mississippi River evenings. June brings the Quad Cities' Bix 7 race energy, July and August are festival-rich (think Mississippi Valley Fair), and September through mid-October delivers cool nights, fewer bugs, and brilliant bluff-country fall color along the Great River Road. Winters are genuinely cold (often below 20°F with snow), so most campgrounds close from November through March. Insider tip: book the second or third weekend of September for the sweet spot of warm days, cool nights, and wide-open campground availability.
weather.gov/dvn/climateI've never driven an RV. Will I be okay renting in Davenport?
You'll be just fine, first time renting an RV is genuinely easier than people expect, and Davenport is a friendly place to start. Every host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup: how to level, hook up power and water, run the propane, dump tanks, and use the slide-outs. The Quad Cities sit on flat to gently rolling terrain with wide lanes on I-80, I-74, and US-61, so there's no mountain driving to worry about. Stick to right lanes, take wider turns, and you'll feel comfortable within an hour. Pro tip: pick up your rig midmorning on a weekday for the easiest practice drive back to camp.
iowadot.gov/mvd/driverseducationWhat happens if something breaks down during my trip?
You're covered. Every RVezy booking includes 24/7 roadside assistance with your protection plan, so a flat tire on the Centennial Bridge, a dead battery at Credit Island, or a warning light on I-80 is just a phone call away from help. Tow service, tire changes, jump-starts, and lockout assistance are all part of the package. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their rig, most are local to the Quad Cities and respond within minutes. Pro tip: snap photos of the RV at pickup so any questions later are quick to resolve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I drive my Davenport RV rental into Illinois, Wisconsin, or beyond?
Yes, crossing the Centennial Bridge into Illinois is one of the most popular moves for a Davenport RV trip, and interstate travel throughout the US is generally allowed on RVezy bookings. Many guests do loops through Galena, Starved Rock State Park, the Wisconsin Dells, or down the Great River Road to Hannibal, MO. Travel into Mexico is not permitted (no insurance coverage), but Canada may be allowed with the host's written approval before booking. Always confirm cross-border or multi-state plans by messaging the host directly from the listing. Pro tip: the 90-mile drive north to Galena, IL makes a fantastic 2-night first trip.
fhwa.dot.gov/byways/byways/2279What kind of fuel mileage and gas budget should I plan for?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays manageable. Campervans and small Class B rentals typically get 17 to 22 miles per gallon (MPG), Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and large Class A rigs run 6 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in the Davenport area generally track close to or slightly below the national average thanks to Iowa's biofuel production. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop in a Class C, budget roughly $90 to $130 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott (the world's largest truck stop, 15 minutes west on I-80), where diesel and gas prices are usually a few cents cheaper.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Davenport?
For summer weekends, book 2 to 3 months ahead to lock in the best campgrounds near Davenport. Scott County Park campgrounds (West Lake, Pine Grove, Woodside) reserve through the Scott County Conservation portal and fill quickly for July 4th and Labor Day. US Army Corps of Engineers sites like Fisherman's Corner book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. Private parks such as Interstate RV Park and Lundeen's Landing usually have more last-minute flexibility. Weekdays are easy almost any time. Pro tip: if you're aiming for the Bix 7 race weekend in late July, reserve as soon as the calendar opens, that's the busiest weekend of the year in the Quad Cities.
recreation.gov/What are local driving conditions like around Davenport?
Driving an RV around Davenport is refreshingly easy, the terrain is flat to gently rolling, lanes are wide, and traffic moves smoothly outside of weekday rush hours on I-74 across the Mississippi. Watch for the Centennial Bridge (US-67) and the I-74 Bridge, both have generous clearance for RVs but can get windy. Avoid the narrow brick streets of the Village of East Davenport with a big rig. Summer thunderstorms can roll through fast, so check radar before heading out. In winter, ice and snow shut many campgrounds. Pro tip: download the 511ia traffic app for real-time road and weather alerts across Iowa before your trip.

Pickup is usually at the host's home in Davenport, Bettendorf, or Moline, with delivery to local campgrounds available from many owners. Drop-off must be at the same location unless your host approves a one-way trip in advance, message them directly to ask. Mileage allowances and pet policies are also set per listing, so check the details before booking. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking, hosts often discount packages versus à la carte, saving $30 to $60 on a typical weekend.
cityofdavenportiowa.com/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy at booking with a credit or debit card, and your funds are processed through the platform. A refundable security deposit is held by RVezy (not the host) before pickup, with the amount set by the listing, and it's released back to you after drop-off assuming there's no damage or excessive cleaning. Avoid issues by doing a thorough walk-around with photos at pickup and drop-off, returning the RV with tanks dumped and fuel refilled, and reporting any concerns through the RVezy app. Pro tip: keep the gas receipt from your last fill-up to make drop-off paperwork instant.
