Garden City is home to Lee Richardson Zoo, one of the largest free zoos in the region. For a longer day trip, Cimarron National Grassland lies southwest and offers primitive hiking, wildlife viewing, and preserved Santa Fe Trail ruts across open shortgrass prairie.
