The camping season in western Kentucky runs strongest from spring through fall. Hillman Ferry Campground inside Land Between the Lakes operates March 1 through November 30, and Piney Campground follows a similar March-through-November schedule. Spring brings higher lake levels that can affect shoreline sites, along with the region's wettest months and occasional severe thunderstorms. Summer is peak season. Holiday weekends fill quickly at the state park and the private RV parks along I-24, and daytime heat and humidity are typical, with muggy summers and cold, wet winters characterizing the local climate. Booking several months out is reasonable for waterfront and full-hookup sites. Fall delivers cooler nights, quieter campgrounds, and strong fishing. Winter camping is possible at some parks but limited. In the spring and fall inside Land Between the Lakes, water at individual sites may not be available due to colder temperatures, though water is provided at designated hydrants throughout the campground. Expect reduced services outside the March-to-November window.

Private campgrounds around Calvert City typically offer full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, paved or gravel pads, laundry, and Wi-Fi. Kentucky Dam Village runs a large campground under state-park standards, with paved sites offering water and electric hookups, a grocery store, dump stations, and central service buildings with showers and restrooms. Full-hookup sites are not available at Kentucky Dam Village, though a dump station is on-site. Inside Land Between the Lakes, expect a mix of primitive, electric, water-and-electric, and full-hookup sites, with modern bathhouses and laundry facilities at the larger campgrounds. Cell service can be spotty deeper into the recreation area. RVers should plan for large-rig-friendly sites at Hillman Ferry and the KOA, and confirm length limits before booking at smaller state and private parks. Golf carts are allowed in Kentucky state park campgrounds only with a purchased permit.
