Campgrounds and RV parks near Clinton, KY

Columbus Belmont State Park is the primary regional draw on the Kentucky side. A 2.5-mile hiking trail winds through preserved Civil War earthworks and rifle pits on bluffs above the Mississippi, and the on-site museum, seasonal snack bar, mini golf, and playground round out a family day. Reelfoot Lake, about 45 minutes southwest, is the other anchor. The shallow, cypress-studded lake was formed by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811 and 1812 and is known for wintering bald eagles, American white pelicans that arrive in early October, and crappie, bluegill, and bass fishing. Guided pontoon and canoe tours run from the visitor center, and the aviary hosts live raptors year round. Union City, Tennessee, adds Discovery Park of America, grocery stores, and restaurants within a short drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this corner of Kentucky. April and May bring wildflowers, active crappie fishing on Reelfoot Lake, and warm days without peak humidity, though spring is the wettest stretch of the year and low-lying sites near the lake can get soggy after heavy rain. The South Campground at Reelfoot Lake is noted as extremely busy in April and May. September through November delivers mild days, thinning crowds, and pelican viewing that peaks around the Pelican Festival in late October. Summer runs hot and humid, with July highs near 89 degrees Fahrenheit and dew points that stay uncomfortable from June through August. Sites with shade and full hookups for air conditioning are worth prioritizing, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Winter is the specialty season. Hundreds of bald eagles winter at Reelfoot Lake, and the state park runs ranger-led eagle van and bus tours daily in January and February, capped by the annual Eagle Festival on the first weekend of February. Kentucky State Parks caution that water service at campgrounds is not guaranteed during freezing weather.

Roads into the area are two-lane state highways and county routes. Big rigs are workable, but expect narrow shoulders and few pull-through options once off the main routes. The Purchase Parkway is the main north-south artery; from Fulton, exit 1 leads west to Clinton and on to Columbus Belmont via Highway 58. Sites at Columbus Belmont sit on high ground above the river with picnic tables, grills, restrooms, and a dump station. At Airpark North, sites are quiet, well-spaced, and lightly shaded, and there is no on-site office; after-hours arrivals check in at the South Campground camp store or with the campground host at site 31. Cell coverage is workable but inconsistent, especially near the lake. Groceries, fuel, and RV supplies are easiest to reach in Union City, Tennessee. Firewood should be sourced locally to reduce the spread of invasive pests.
