Campgrounds and RV parks near Farley, KY

Paducah anchors most day trips. Downtown holds the National Quilt Museum, the Floodwall Murals, the River Heritage Museum, and the LowerTown Arts District, with the Carson Center for performing arts nearby. Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area lie roughly half an hour east and open up boating, kayaking, swimming, and miles of trails. Across the Ohio River in Metropolis, Illinois, Fort Massac State Park combines a replica 18th-century fort, a museum, hiking trails, a boat ramp, and Ohio River fishing for catfish, bass, crappie, and drum. Metropolis is also the official home of Superman, with a downtown statue and museum that draw families. Closer to home, Fern Lake Campground offers on-site fishing in a stocked lake, useful when travel days are short.

Western Kentucky has a humid subtropical climate with four clear seasons and rain in every month. Spring runs warm and wet, with April and May among the wettest months of the year and an elevated risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes across the lower Ohio Valley. River-adjacent sites at parks like Birdsville Riverside RV Park and Fort Massac State Park can see muddy conditions after heavy spring rain, and during major flooding events some trails and low-lying areas along the Ohio can be underwater. Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs commonly near 90°F and warm overnight lows. This is peak season for Kentucky Lake and Land Between the Lakes, so popular weekends and holidays fill early. Fall brings the most stable weather of the year: cooler nights, lower humidity, and generally drier conditions through October, which is prime time for touring and longer trips. Winter is cold and damp with occasional snow and ice; private RV parks around Paducah typically stay open year-round, while Fort Massac stays much quieter, with reduced bathhouse availability and seasonal historic programming.

Expect a mix of highway-adjacent RV parks and quieter riverside or wooded settings. Duck Creek RV Park is convenient to I-24 and Paducah errands but more parking-lot than secluded. Fern Lake Campground sits on the edge of Paducah just off I-24, with mostly level gravel sites, full hookups, 50-amp service, and a small lake on the property. Fort Massac State Park has roomy, often shaded back-in sites with Ohio River access, though it sits on the edge of Metropolis and gets non-camper traffic through the park. Cell coverage is reasonable around Paducah. Bring insect repellent in summer, watch for ticks on wooded trails, and store food securely. After heavy rain, low spots and gravel pads near the river can stay soft for a day or two.
