Campgrounds and RV parks near Francisville, KY

Big Bone Lick State Historic Site is a short drive south and is known as the Birthplace of American Vertebrate Paleontology, with a live bison herd, a museum covering Ice Age fossils, hiking trails, and an 18-hole miniature golf course on park grounds. The Creation Museum sits in nearby Petersburg, Kentucky, and the Ark Encounter lies roughly 40 to 45 minutes south in Williamstown. Cincinnati attractions are close: the Cincinnati Zoo, Newport Aquarium, Cincinnati Museum Center, and Great American Ball Park all sit within a half hour of the Francisville area. The Ohio River itself supports fishing, boat ramps, and riverside walking. Several nearby campgrounds add on-site amenities like stocked ponds, canoe and pedal-boat rentals, seasonal pools, and playgrounds for kids.

The Francisville area follows a humid continental pattern with warm, humid summers and cold winters. Public campgrounds in Kentucky reflect that swing: Big Bone Lick State Historic Site operates seasonally, with the campground open from mid-March through mid-November. Kentucky State Parks also caution that water and other resources cannot be guaranteed during months when freezing temperatures are possible, so shoulder-season travelers should confirm hookup status before arrival. Summer is the busiest stretch. Weekends and holiday periods at Big Bone Lick and the private parks in Rising Sun and North Bend fill early, and booking well in advance during summer months and weekends is advised. Site fees at Big Bone Lick may increase during the second and third weeks of October due to fall color and increased demand. Many private parks, including the Beyonder Rising Sun properties and Indian Springs, operate year-round or on extended seasons, giving winter RVers options when the state-park campground is closed.

Expect a mix of family-oriented private RV parks and one nearby state-park campground. Indian Springs offers roughly 60 lakeside sites with 20/30/50-amp electric, water, sewer, hot showers, laundry, WiFi, a playground, and canoe and pedal-boat rentals; tent camping is not permitted. Big Bone Lick features 62 sites with utility hookups, grills, a playground, showers, restrooms, laundry, and a basic camp store, and campers report that some sites require longer water hoses. Beyonder Getaway Rising Sun operates two areas along and above the Ohio River, with pool access, a camp store that delivers wood and propane, and seasonal family events. Pets are welcome at Beyonder with a two-pet-per-site limit on RV sites, must stay leashed, and are not allowed at tent sites, in the pool, or in public buildings.
