Campgrounds near Highland Heights, Kentucky
Highland Heights sits in Campbell County, Kentucky, just across the Ohio River from Cincinnati and inside the Cincinnati metropolitan area. RV travelers use it as a base for city attractions in Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky river towns, and the rolling farmland south toward Alexandria and Falmouth. Interstates 275, 471, and 71/75 put most regional destinations within a short drive.
Campground options nearby cover a range of setups. Tuckers Landing RV Park and Riverfront RV Park sit close to the Ohio River corridor, while AJ Jolly Park & Campground is one of the largest and oldest county parks in Kentucky, located south of the city near Alexandria. Cincinnati Campsites and Hidden Valley RV Park and Storage round out the choices with sites geared toward longer stays and full hookups.
Expect a mix of private RV parks and one county-run campground, so amenities, rules, and reservation systems vary by property. The AJ Jolly campground is closed for the 2026 season and the lake is closed to fishing, so travelers hoping for that public-park option should confirm current status before planning.
Things to do near Highland Heights
Day trips lean heavily on Cincinnati across the river. The Cincinnati Zoo, Newport Aquarium, the Reds and Bengals stadiums, and the riverfront parks on both sides of the Ohio are all within about fifteen minutes. Families with kids often build itineraries around the aquarium in Newport and the museums at Union Terminal.
South of Highland Heights, AJ Jolly Park features an 18-hole golf course overlooking the lake, a disc golf course, multiple sports fields, and an environmental interpretive center, plus 20 miles of equestrian trails as well as a few miles of hiker-only trails. Big Bone Lick State Historic Site and the Ohio River Scenic Byway add lower-key options. For dining and walking, Mainstrasse Village in Covington and the Newport on the Levee complex are easy evening outings from any nearby campground.

Peak RV season runs from late May through early October, when temperatures are warm and Cincinnati events, ballgames, and river festivals are in full swing. Independence Day and Labor Day weekends draw the heaviest demand at nearby private parks, so sites can fill weeks in advance.
Spring and fall are quieter and often more comfortable for touring the city. Rainfall is fairly wet and spread relatively evenly throughout the year, with a modest peak in spring, and tornado season in Cincinnati runs May, June, and July, when over half of Ohio's tornadoes occur. Fall foliage in Northern Kentucky typically peaks in mid to late October and pairs well with a shoulder-season trip.
Winter travel is possible but limited. Some private RV parks stay open year-round for extended-stay guests with winterized hookups, while public and seasonal campgrounds close after the fall season. From November to March, Cincinnati can remain below freezing all day long, with 22 days a year on average when the temperature never rises above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

Matt was great to work with and the RV was very nice. Would do business with again!

The trailer was easy enough to pull with our SUV and was a comfortable and cozy space for two adults for 3 nights. The A/C worked great and it was way better than tent camping. This was our first time renting a camping trailer and the owner’s first time lending. He was quick to respond to our questions. We would do it again. We used our own bedding and rugs to make it feel more homey for us.

How to book a campsite
AJ Jolly Park's campground is closed for the 2026 season, so RV travelers should not plan on that public option until Campbell County Parks announces a reopening. Shelter and day-use reservations for the park still run through Campbell County Parks by phone.
Private parks including Tuckers Landing RV Park, Cincinnati Campsites, Riverfront RV Park, and Hidden Valley RV Park and Storage handle reservations directly by phone, website, or third-party booking platforms. Many hold a portion of sites for monthly and seasonal guests, so nightly inventory can be limited during peak weekends.
For any park, confirm rig length limits, slide-out clearance, pet rules, and check-in windows before arrival. Ask about Ohio River flood contingencies if booking a riverfront site in spring.
What to expect on the ground
Most private parks near Highland Heights offer full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service, Wi-Fi of varying quality, and gravel or paved pads. Bathhouse quality ranges from basic to well-kept, and cell coverage on major carriers is generally strong throughout the Cincinnati metro.
When open, AJ Jolly's RV sites have water and 20/30 amp electric service with no sewer hookups, while sites 47-53 and The Point offer 50 amp electric service, giving it a county-park feel rather than resort amenities. Terrain in the area is rolling, so expect some sloped sites and to use leveling blocks.
Traffic across the Brent Spence Bridge and through the I-71/75 corridor into Cincinnati can back up during rush hour and event nights. Plan arrivals outside those windows when possible, and note that many campground access roads are narrow two-lane county routes.

Highland Heights sits just minutes from I-471, I-275, and I-71/75, so you'll be on smooth interstate quickly. The main thing to know: the Brent Spence Bridge and the I-471 Big Mac Bridge into downtown Cincinnati can get congested during weekday rush hours (7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.) so plan pickups and drop-offs around those windows. Watch overhead clearance on a few older parkways and avoid the narrow streets of Mt. Adams in Cincinnati with anything over 25 feet. Once you're south of I-275 on US-27, the rolling Kentucky countryside is RV heaven. In winter, watch for black ice on the river bridges; KYTC posts real-time conditions on GoKY.
