Campgrounds near Marion, Kentucky
Marion sits in Crittenden County in the Pennyroyal region of western Kentucky, near the Ohio and Tradewater Rivers. The town is the county seat of Crittenden County, making it a small-town base for RV travelers exploring the lower Ohio River valley, Lake Barkley, and the Shawnee Hills across the river in Illinois.
Camping options range from small public riverside parks to larger private RV resorts. Riverview RV Park is a Crittenden County park on the Ohio River at the old Lock and Dam #50, with seven RV lots offering full electric, water, and sewer hook-ups. About 45 minutes east, Venture River RV Park sits next to Venture River Waterpark in Eddyville and offers RV sites plus tent camping, showers, a camp store, and a playground, while Eddy Vegas Campground is a locally owned park near Lake Barkley with 59 full hook-up sites offering 50/30 amp electric service, water, and sewer.
Across the Ohio River in Illinois, Cave-in-Rock State Park sits on the river in Hardin County, reached from Marion via the Cave-in-Rock ferry. Scenic Overlook RV Campground in nearby Kuttawa rounds out the options for travelers wanting quieter, view-oriented sites.
Things to do near Marion
Water recreation drives most trips. Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, roughly 30 to 40 miles east of Marion, are well known for crappie, bass, catfish, and bluegill fishing, and marinas near Eddyville provide boat ramps, rentals, and guide services. Families staying at Venture River RV Park have direct access to the adjoining Venture River Waterpark with slides, a wave pool, and a lazy river.
History and geology are the other draws. A 55-foot-wide cave sits in the high limestone bluffs above the Ohio River at Cave-in-Rock State Park, and several hiking trails wind through the wooded bluffs and offer expansive river views. Mantle Rock Nature Preserve, north of Marion in Livingston County, features a large natural sandstone arch and Trail of Tears history, with trails for hiking and bird watching. The Ben E. Clement Mineral Museum in downtown Marion is a good rainy-day stop.

Marion has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Spring and fall are ideal for visiting, with mild weather good for hiking and exploring the outdoors without the summer crowds. Spring brings the heaviest rainfall of the year and swollen rivers, so low-lying riverside sites can be affected during high-water events on the Ohio.
Summer is peak camping season on Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, and lakefront and waterpark-adjacent sites book up well in advance for holiday weekends. Days are hot and humid, thunderstorms are common, and evening lake breezes help. Fall delivers cooler nights, lower humidity, and fall color through October, and it is prime fishing season on both lakes.
Winter is quiet. Some private parks stay open year-round with reduced services, while public and seasonal parks scale back. Snow accumulation is typically light, but freezing nights are common from December through February, and RV travelers should plan for cold-weather hookups and possible ferry service interruptions on the Ohio River during ice or high water.
Booking and reservations
Reservation systems vary by park. Riverview RV Park has full-hookup RV lots and reservations can be made for up to 14 consecutive nights, with cancellation requests inside 48 hours of arrival subject to a fee. Bookings are handled through Crittenden County, and the park is also listed on Campspot.
Across the river, Cave-in-Rock State Park operates on a first-come, first-served basis without a reservation system, so arriving early in the day is advised, especially during peak seasons, and weekdays typically have more availability than weekends. Private parks including Venture River RV Park and Eddy Vegas Campground take reservations by phone or online, with Eddy Vegas also bookable through Campspot. For summer weekends and holiday periods around the lakes, reserve six to eight weeks ahead.
What to expect
Expect a mix of small public parks and larger family-style RV resorts. Sites at Riverview RV Park include full electric, water, and sewer hook-ups in a compact riverside setting, with no attendant on duty and users of the park doing so at their own risk.
Private parks in the Eddyville corridor are built for bigger rigs. Eddy Vegas Campground offers 59 sites with 50/30 amp electric, water, and sewer, with back-in and pull-through sites, some extending up to 80 feet, and Venture River RV Park is big-rig friendly with full hookups and 30/50 amp service. Cell service on major carriers is generally usable in the Eddyville area but can drop in rural pockets near the Ohio River. Bring insect repellent in warm months; ticks and mosquitoes are common in the wooded state park sites.

weather.gov/pah/I have never rented an RV before. Is Marion a good place to start?
Marion is one of the easiest places to be a first-time renter. Traffic is light, roads through Crittenden County are wide and rural, and you are surrounded by flat-to-rolling terrain with no mountain passes. Every RVezy booking includes a hands-on orientation at pickup, where your host walks you through hookups, the generator, slide-outs, and waste tanks before you turn the key. You can also message your host through the platform with questions during your trip. Start with a travel trailer or Class C motorhome, choose Delivery to skip the driving entirely, and plan a short first-night loop to Riverview RV Park to practice setup near home.

Your host is also a quick message away and often the fastest source for RV-specific tips. Save the roadside number in your phone before pickup and you can hit the road feeling fully backed up.

kentuckytourism.com/road-tripsWhat should I budget for fuel on a Marion, KY RV trip?
Fuel is one of your biggest controllable costs, but Kentucky helps you out: gas prices in Marion typically run a bit below the national average. Travel trailers tow at 10 to 14 miles per gallon (MPG) behind a half-ton truck, Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A motorhomes get 6 to 9 MPG. For a 4-day, 300-mile loop through Land Between the Lakes in a Class C, plan on roughly $130 to $180 in gas. Fill up in Marion or Eddyville before heading into LBL (no fuel stations inside the recreation area), and drive 55 to 60 mph on KY-91 to maximize efficiency.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Marion?
Earlier is better, especially for popular spots. Land Between the Lakes campgrounds (Hillman Ferry, Piney, Energy Lake, Wranglers) accept reservations up to 6 months ahead, and lakefront sites for summer holidays sell out within hours of opening. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, book in January or February. Spring and fall midweek stays often have availability just a week out. Smaller private parks like Riverview RV Park and War Eagle RV Park usually take phone reservations a few weeks ahead. Pro tip: set an availability alert on the LBL reservation site and pounce when a cancellation appears.
landbetweenthelakes.us/stay/camping/What are the driving conditions like around Marion, KY?
Driving an RV around Marion is refreshingly relaxed. US-60 and KY-91 are wide two-lane highways with gentle curves and little congestion, and there are no mountain passes or extreme grades. Watch for slow-moving Amish buggies (Crittenden County has Kentucky's largest Amish community), deer at dawn and dusk (the county has the state's second-largest whitetail population), and occasional flooding on low-lying river roads after heavy rain. Avoid taking a long Class A motorhome down the narrow lanes to Tolu Landing or Dycusburg, both pretty but tight. The Western Kentucky Parkway and I-24 handle big rigs effortlessly when you want to cover ground fast.
transportation.ky.gov/Highway-Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat amenities will I find at campgrounds near Marion?
Western Kentucky campgrounds are well-equipped for any RV. Full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp electric, water, and sewer are common at War Eagle RV Park, Riverview RV Park at Dam 50, and many sites at Hillman Ferry and Piney inside Land Between the Lakes. You will find dump stations at LBL's North Welcome Station, South Welcome Station, and near Golden Pond. Showers, laundry, fish cleaning stations, boat ramps, and camp stores are common. Potable water fill is available at every LBL campground. Insider tip: dump your tanks and top off fresh water at Hillman Ferry before heading deeper into LBL, since dispersed sites have no services.
landbetweenthelakes.us/stay/camping/What's included inside a typical motorhome rental in Marion?
You'll be impressed by what comes ready to roll. A typical motorhome rental Marion or campervan rental Marion on RVezy includes a queen or king bed, dinette and/or sofa that converts to additional sleeping space, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a bathroom with toilet and shower, air conditioning, furnace heat, and seatbelted travel seats for everyone on board. Most rentals also include linens, basic cookware, a TV, and an onboard generator or solar setup. WiFi via cellular hotspot is common but coverage gets spotty deep inside Land Between the Lakes. nhtsa.gov/road-safety/seat-beltsWhat add-ons and pickup logistics should I know about?

Common RVezy add-ons in Marion include camp chairs and tables, kitchen kits, bedding and linens, generators, bike racks, fishing gear, and Starlink or hotspot WiFi (great for streaming when you are parked near the Ohio River). Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Marion, with Delivery available for a flat fee to most spots within 30 to 50 miles, including Land Between the Lakes. Mileage policies vary by listing: free daily miles plus a small per-mile fee over that, or unlimited mileage for an upcharge. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002007053-Renting-an-RVHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled inside the RVezy platform. You pay your booking total (nightly rate, cleaning, delivery, add-ons, and protection plan) securely through the site, never directly to the host in cash. A refundable security deposit is placed as a hold on your card before pickup, separate from your booking payment, and it is released after a clean return. Avoid issues by doing a thorough walkthrough video at both pickup and drop-off, returning the RV at the agreed fuel and propane level, and dumping waste tanks before return (or paying the dump fee). Transparent and protected end to end.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I take my Marion RV rental into Illinois or Tennessee?
Yes, interstate travel is part of the fun. RV rental Kentucky bookings on RVezy are typically cleared for travel throughout the continental United States, so crossing the Ohio River into Illinois via the historic Cave-in-Rock Ferry or heading south to Tennessee for a Nashville run is no problem. Travel into Canada may be allowed with host approval and proper documentation; travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental. Always confirm out-of-state plans with your host through the message thread before booking so they can flag any mileage or routing notes. Then go enjoy that family RV trip Marion to Music City you have been dreaming about.
